Did DVC drop the Riviera resale restriction?

Or is it just a website glitch?

I've been stalking the site for a reservation, and noticed that for the first time, Riviera was showing as on option. Nothing was available for my dates, but I just tried to book a dummy reservation for a different day, and it let me.

Not sure if they're changing the resale restriction or if it's just a website glitch. What would happen if it ends up being a glitch, but I have a reservation? Would they just cancel it and say too bad?

I also was just able to complete a reservation and we have only restricted resale points. Riviera has only ever shown up in the list of resorts when searching availability once or twice and I've never been able to proceed with booking. This went all the way through and gave me a confirmation number for a stay in early February.

Huh...that's weird. I just checked it and it looks like it would work for my resale contract also. Two days ago I experimented and couldn't even see Riviera on that member ID.
I'm thinking glitch, or everyone would have been talking about a resale restriction change, it would've been the biggest news out there!

Weird. I only have one contract and it's resale. It gives me a drop down menu with two options with the same number. The default first option doesn't have it. However if I switch to the second option it comes up and I can book. I'm thinking it's a glitch. If I get the ability to book RIV online but can't borrow points online, I'll take that trade off. Glitch giveth, glitch taketh away.

I put in a few waitlist requests because the resort does seem pretty booked up.

I wonder if anyone on the boards is a riviera resale owner only & if they now have the ability to book at other locations. Fingers crossed for them!

I am waiting on my RIV resale to load. Probably take 2 weeks. Once I do, I’ll have to give it a try!!

Certainly is interesting. I wonder if the move to add VGF studios is promoting a change? Same association so pretty sure those can not have restrictions.

If they do change, it will certainly be a big one!!

ETA: My restricted contract at BLT..just waiting for them to take it for the new owner..is indeed showing up now as a choice so for RIV. I could always see it because I had SSR points valid. But today I could have booked using those BLT.

This is a great point. I'm sure its a glitch or mishap like last time we got all excited from the document that was going around because I bet if they did make a change there would be a big announcement from DVC themselves but I really hope they dropped it because of VGF 2.

Not the same association. Every DVC resort is a separate condo association. The BVTC (Buena Vista Trading Co), comes into play when using points at a non-home resort. Add new inventory to VGF will not change the agreements between each resorts condo association and BVTC.

Correct. That is why I am wondering if they are thinking of changing RIV since the new inventory coming for VGF to be sold won’t have it.

While true in that regard. Them possible dropping it would be because it makes selling Riviera over VGF 2 a strange sell. "So your now selling VGF2 with no restrictions but RIV has them?" "Why would I buy RIV then?" Those conversations would be the reason they would drop it.

It's because of the wish lists we made for the website shutdown on this board!!! Somebody posted on that thread that they wished DVC would end the Riviera restriction, and DVC took that for action. :woohoo:
Yeah...gotta be!

Interesting .. for a period of time last year I could see RIVs availability but couldn’t book. Then the availability disappeared . Now I can see it and book! I’m guessing a glitch but still kind of cool !

While I never like to rain on someone else's good fortune, as a resale Riv owner, I would not be very happy if they did only a one-sided drop. That would create a lot more competition at the 7 month mark for the only resort at which I am allowed to book.

I do not see them doing that. If the change is real..which I think it isn’t…it would only be done as a benefit to help direct sales.

A one way switch for resale doesn’t do that. Have you tried to see if it would let you book other resorts today?

See if you get options!

ETA. See you did and it didn’t work. Then it has to be a glitch
