Did Dollar buy out Thrifty?

When I got my confirmation email, it was from reservations@dollar.com.
Just wondering if they are owned by the same people, or if they merged, or have they always been partners?

That's funny because I originally booked a decent rate through Dollar several months ago. This week I decided to check for a better rate and found a better rate at Thrifty.
I contacted Dollar and told them I found a better rate at Thrifty and asked them if they could match or beat the rate. Dollar responed to me that they already gave me their best rate and would not match or beat the rate I got from Thrifty.
Now I know why. Hahahaha
