so ill that with 2 of 3 pregnancies I had to be hospitalized for dehydration; couldn't keep anything down-at all.

Yup. I had hyperemesis with both of my kids. That's the main reason we're done having kids. It lasted right up until delivery both times. I lost 30 lbs in the first trimester both times, and both times I was under my pre-pregnancy weight when I gave birth. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Pretty much from conception until I delivered, I was throwing up. DH says it lasted about 2-3 weeks after I delivered DD, but thankfully I don't remember that! I couldn't take any of the anti-nausea medications on the market, so I was pretty miserable the whole pregnancy. In fact DD turns 7 soon, and I'm just now considering having a second, the vomiting was so bad. I only had to be rehydrated with an IV once, and since I was active duty Navy the whole pregnancy I worked until the day before I had her. I do remember perfect strangers knew the sound of my throwing up, it was such a common occurance in my workplace.

I honestly would not wish my pregnancy on my worst enemy, but DD is very healthy. I'd heard the excess hormones explanation before, and wouldn't be surprised if that's part of the reason; I still have issues with elevated hormones. :headache:

With my first-Morning, afternoon, evening, middle of the night sickness for the first 25 weeks.

OTOH- I only gained around 15 lbs, and DD was 10 1/2 of it;)

With #2- not much at all. I was convinced she was a boy, since it was so different. I also gained 50 lbs:upsidedow

Oh, yes. I was pregnant twice, the first ended in miscarriage, but I was sick from about week 4 until the end. When I was pregnant with DD, I was sick the entire time - even throwing up during labor and delivery. It was bad. VERY bad. I drove my car with a bucket beside me and couldn't walk through the grocery store because the sight of food made me lose it. I'd watch commercials with food and I'd be running to the bathroom (the WORST were those close-up shots of rare steaks..... UGH).

After awhile, my doctor put me on IV fluids because I couldn't hold down any water or fluids of any kind. I got sick watching them put the IV in! :rotfl2:

The day after I gave birth, I weighed 15 lbs less than I did before I got pregnant.

I'm sure that this is one of the reasons I only had one child. :confused3

Most pregnant women don't like me because I never got sick with any of my 4 kids. I felt a teeny bit queasy maybe once with my first but that's about it.

My poor friend was so sick she had to be on medicine.

I had morning, noon & night nausea during the 1st trimester w/both pregnancies. I was nauseous from the minute I woke up until the minute I fell asleep, but thankfully, I never threw up. I would lay in bed and eat a couple of saltines before getting up and keep a stash with me at all times. Eating them seemed to help keep the nausea to a minimum. I also could only drink from a straw. If I tried to drink without one, the nausea would get really bad.

I was queezy with our oldest and food had a strange taste--mostly strong smells got to me. I never actually threw up. With the twins, nothing, no food smells, funny tastes, nothing. I think the big difference was that I was working when I was pregnant with DS17 and couldn't always eat when I needed to and was ha SAHM by the time I was pregnant with the twins and could eat as soon as I needed.

Morning sickeness, noon sickness, evening sickness...... I managed. I didn't miss any work.

All day every day until I was 5 months. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and the doctor told me to go to the hospital and they gave me an IV of Phenergan. I was VERY loopy for a few hours but went home and never got sick again. I don't know if it's coincidence or what lol

hyperemesis for me. it was the worst feeling in the world. at least when you have some virus you know it will end soon. when sick due to pregnancy you never know how long it will last!! and mine did last......
i vomited constantly, 24 hours a day for MONTHS. it started within 2 weeks of conception and the most severe of it lasted for 3 months. i was in the e.r. a few times to get an i.v. for dehydration, then my doctor finally admitted me and i stayed for 2 months. when i was finally discharged, i went home with an i.v. and visits from a nurse every other day. it was HORRIBLE!!!
i had 1 week from the day i left the hospital until my wedding day. :scared1: i didn't even have a dress. it was a pretty small event, my mom and sister had already made all the arrangements. i just had to find a dress. i remember my mom pulling the car over so i could throw up while we were out dress hunting!!! anyways, the benefit was that you couldn't even tell i was pregnant. i had actually lost almost 30 pounds! :woohoo: but my arms were covered in bruises from the i.v's!!! it DID eventually pass and i enjoyed the rest of my uneventful pregnancy!
can you believe this was my 1st pregnancy and i still went on to have 2 more kids?????? they were bad too, but my doc gave me meds to take at home and i avoided the hospital all but a few times for fluids.

For my 1st, not bad. Mild nausea at random times, and vomited with absolutely NO warning once.

For my 2nd, pretty bad. Bad enough that I was perpetually a bit dehydrated, and suffered relentless migraines more than half of each week. Was fine by 25 weeks or so. I did develop an aversion for dogs (the fur smell, and their breath were massive triggers for my nausea). I still avoid dogs to this day. Oh, and vomited uncontrollably if I tried to take any kind of prenatal vitamin.

For my 3rd, mild again. Strange things set me off. I wasn't too bad off, though.

4th child: OMG. I had a standing order to go to the labor-delivery floor at the local hospital to replenish fluids. I lived on my couch from 5 weeks pregnant to 24 weeks. I couldn't enter a grocery store, just smelling bread in the air set me off. The first appointment I had where I hadn't lost any weight was my 24 week checkup - my weight had stayed the same from the 22 week check! I lost 24 lbs ( no, I wasn't large to begin with, a bit of extra weight but not even barely obese). When dd was born, I came home and could wear shorts that hadn't fit me in 4 yrs.

I can tell you: if you have morning sickness, do NOT NOT NOT eat watermelon! MY friend brought me some, it tastes mild and is very juicy. IT IS ACID and burns BAD coming back at ya!

I did with my one, yep. For the second and third months, other than that it was a breeze. And the AM sickness wouldn't have even bothered me if I hadn't been at a job where my presence was required, even if it was in the staff bathroom on my knees, praying to the porcelain gods...

The thing that was more annoying than morning sickness, though, was every time I smelled chicken cooking... :crazy2: It made me SOOOO sick! I could EAT chicken just fine but ugh, the smell of it cooking :sad2:

Yes x3 - the 2nd time was the worst, had it all the time- bad enough the dr put me on some anti-nausea meds (don't remember the name though) - sometimes Dr Pepper helped (weird right??) but i had the stomach flu my last week of #3 - whoa bad bad bad!!!

I was queasy but never to the point that I felt like I needed to throw up. I know I am a lucky one!
