Did Disney World just increase capacity?

It looks like Disney increased capacity starting Memorial Day weekend when I look at the park reservation availability. Am I looking at it wrong?

I was surprised with the 8 am open at MK a few weeks back.

8 AM to 9 PM at 35% capacity (which is what has been rumors/confirmed? the the number of people) without Fast Passes seemed doable.

I am going to double down on rope drop. So much can be done from 7:30 AM until 10 AM in MK!!!

No that is when the Silver Passport Blackout starts on June 1. So that blocks out lots and lots of potential guests for the entire month of June.

Dave

But that would have been the case before, right? They couldn't have reserved with just the AP, so while there might be fewer APs going, it wouldn't open spots that had already been reserved. They've just opened up more spots.

Yes. Looks like Memorial Day kicks off a new phase. Up to 50% capacity? If things felt crowded over the last few weeks, I can't imagine how June will feel after the opening for new passes. We're booked for early May and maybe they'll be on-boarding new experiences / eating options in the next few weeks?

I posted the above article earlier on the News Roundup board...after reading, I guess we will know for sure “SOON!”

We arrive June 23rd and the hours look promising! I'm still hopeful they'll extend the closing later though- get us some real night time with no sun!

CDC revised its guidance to say 3 feet distancing is sufficient, down from 6 feet. Won't be surprised to see them compress/shrink the distancing as a result
I thought that too but that would essentially mean no social distancing. If you have markers 3 feet apart, families of at least 3 would be very close to each other.

Ugh. I don’t know how I feel about this. I hope it doesn’t make lines too long. I feel like having no fast pass works at 35% capacity. But 40% or more.. without opening more character experiences or other entertainment... is just going to make for some very long lines.

My hope is that they have decided to reallocate some of the AP spots to the hotel/park ticket folks.

But in reality, I'm guessing they increased their attendance cap. Starting the week we are going. Ugh.

Now, if they are going to open up more attractions/shows, or at least open up more ride capacity on the things already open, then no problem. But if things are basically going to stay operating the way they are, just with more people, it's going to suck.
