Did Disney suspend package delivery?

I just got the 2003 Unofficial Guide and it listed among Disney's recent cutbacks the complimentary package delivery of your park purchases to your Disney resort. Can anyone who has recently returned confirm this? I read the boards all the time and have never seen it mentioned.
I wasn't very impressed with the 2003 book. There wasn't much that I didn't already know from reading the boards. The only thing that might come in handy was the tour plans, but I'm really not that kind of gal. Anyway, I noticed some misinformation in this edition, for instance it listed Epcot's Garden Grill as serving a character breakfast, which I thought was discontinued quite some time ago. So I thought some one might know if the package delivery thing is true or not. Thanks! (If you have any questions about the book, I'd be happy to help).

I believe that package delivery to your room has been suspended, but they still deliver the packages to the resorts gift shop. If I'm wrong, someone will correct me.

We stayed at CBR in April and they delivered our packages to the resort gift store. It wasn't a problem at all to have it delivered or to pick it up and it was great to not have to carry around packages all day.

Wow, you guys are fast! Thanks so much. I'll be at the WL, so picking it up at the gift shop will be no problem at all. Thanks again!

That's exactly right. We were at PO-Riverside just a few weeks ago and we had our packages from the Magic Kingdom sent back to our resort. The next day, when we returned to our room there was a message flashing on our telephone. The message was from Fulton's General Store telling us that our package was ready for pick-up. Not quite as convenient as having it come right to your room, but much better than carrying bags around inside the parks!!

To the individual rooms, yes... to the gift shops at the resorts, NO! It has been this way since at least Dec 2000, when we stayed at the WL!

Our family was at POFQ in November 2000 and the gifts were delivered to the Jackson Sqaure for pickup. It wasn't so bad, and it sure beat carrying the packages with us around the parks.

Gee, one perk cut out so long ago...just the start of things to come, huh?

We have stayed on site three times since January 2000, and they have always delivered the packages to the resort gift shop.
To your room may just depend. Last January at ASMo, we had a package shipped to us priority and found it on our bed when we returned that night. We just thought maybe someone was coming that way anyway and dropped it off for us. :) Maybe concierge would also deliver to a room. ???

We used to have things sent to our room all the time. It was one of the best perks of staying at a Disney resort. Oh well, at least they still deliver to the gift shops at the resorts.

The one exception to the resort gift store rule is if you are staying Concierge level. Then your packages will be delivered to your room. We were just at the Poly in August, and that was how it worked.

Ok, 'splain Lucy!! maybe I'm missing something here--- I thought as a resort guest, we could have any packages sent from the MK, etc. to our ROOM.... maybe I'm a little confused... WDW is now sending packages to the resort GIFT SHOP??

I don't understand... It was probably only one of the great perks left...why would packages be delivered to the gift shop and not our room? what if we get back after the gift shop is closed? I'm still not understanding this???

Another cutback. They would have to pay someone to go around and deliver the packages to the individual rooms. At the large resorts, this could be an all day job. This way they just ship them all to the gift shop and the cm working there takes care of them. It's a free service - picking them up at the gift shop isn't a bad alternative. I've also had items shipped to the front of the park and picked them up when exiting rather than waiting for them to be delivered. Here's an idea - would you be willing to pay extra to have them delivered your room?

If the gift shop is closed, you wait until it opens it the morning. Thats one big plus about the resort gift shops. Their hours are very convenient. They stay open late.
Keep in mind that CM's will either discourage or flat out say no if you want packages sent on to the resort if it is two days or less before you check out.
Two days before checking out, I have had some that would do it when I bought items first thing in the morning. By around noon, they wouldn't do it anywhere. (Say if it was Thursday and I was leaving on a Saturday.)
But I have always had the package at the resort when we return at night that same day. Just precautionary measures I guess.
And sometimes the lines are SO long at the store package pick up, I have been very glad I just had mine sent to the front of the park.
I saw one guest, who was apparently in a hurry, give his name for package pick up to two store CM's. The first one located the package and gave it to him. The poor second CM dug around for SEVERAL minutes, when they were already packed with others trying to pick up packages. When she came out we told her what happened. She was very relieved.
But also package pick up at the front of the park is a madhouse if you wait until the park closes.

In January, DH had bought a marathon sweatshirt that was HTF. He decided later he wanted a different size. He told ASMo guest services where he bought it in Epcot and asked if they would call that location, send over the one he bought and exchange it for a different size. And they did, and were just SUPER nice about it! :) Saved us a lot of time and leg work.
We just had the best service at ASMo than any WDW resort so far.

It may also have something to do with security measures, because this occured before anything to do with cutbacks happened. Who knows if someone had something delivered, got back to the room, thought something was missing, and blamed it on the delivery guy? You just never know! This will protect both the guest and the castmember, and probably has more to do with why room delivery was changed to gift shop delivery... Can you imagine being that delivery guy, delivering something to a room, and no one is there, so of course, no signiture is received on receipt, then something happens to that package after it is delivered? I for one, think it was a smart move.

We were at the Dolphin the first week of this month and our packages were delivered to the concierge desk (we weren't in conceirge).

I agree that this doesn't have anything to do with the cutbacks of the last year. It has been several years since we had packages delivered to our actual room. For the past few years, we have always had to pick them up in the gift shop. When you get to your room, there is a message on your voice mail letting you know your package has arrived and can be picked up. I also agree that the early and late hours at the resort gift shops make this very easy.

We stayed Concierge at AKL and they were delivered to our room!
August 8-12th 2002!
