Did Clay Aiken come out?

Look at Tom Cruise - people have been saying he's gay for YEARS, and he's been married three times!

The only thing THAT says to me is that maybe Tommie Boy ain't so good in the 'being the good husband' department. Possibly ego, possibly the pressure, who knows...

Elton John was married, too. To a female, I might add.

It was neat, the two of them singing together and how excited and surprised he looked! My DH thinks it was fake and planned but I don't.

It was just like when George Michael sang that song and then Elton John came out and joined him.

I also think Clay got screwed up briefly in the beginning of singing the song due to laughing a little!!

I've watched it a few times and that's my impression!

It may or may not help anyone if gay people come out. Ultimately, it's up to them and only them. I know that I wouldn't be comfortable discussing my sex life with the whole world.

Of course, yes, said that, okey dokey, let's move on, :)

Whatever, big talker. You SAY you're uncomfortable about it, yet you don't seem to be too shy about your crush on EMERIL!!

;)

Since one's sexuality is important, I would like to state for the record, I may be heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual or not interested in sex at all. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: :teeth:

Whether Clay has "come out" or not yet, maybe he is confused about being gay, if he is? or maybe he wants his personal life to be private.

I know there has been rumors for a few yrs that Barry Manilow could be gay. I haven't seen anything that Barry "came out". Maybe Barry wants to keep it private, whatever he does.
It took Elton John a few yrs until he "came out". He started his music career in the early '70s. It was the '80s when he "came out". I remember seeing an interview, maybe with Barbara Walters, a few yrs back. And he said he was bi-sexual. He was briefly married (I think for a couple of yrs) to a woman in the early '80s.

Maybe Clay wants to do the "don't ask, don't tell" policy?

As of his hair last night, it was much different. I told dh, he looks like a Beatle!

I just want him to cook for me. That's not sexual....well, not too much. :teeth:

So you guys think it's not important to come out?

For all of my gay friends, it was VERY important to come out -- it was a big thing, kind of like liberation day.

Now if someone doesn't want to, it's none of my business, but don't make it seem like it doesn't matter to gay people. They are very proud of themselves for having come out. And IMO, rightly should be.

I think people should live the life they want and not have to announce it to the whole world, unless they want to. :)

I think it will be nice when we don't even wonder about people's sexual orientations. It should not matter.

For celebs it is the same ole, same ole. Can't come out to the public because it will affect their paycheck.
Can't say I blame them.

That's kind of sad for them -- don't you think? That is a heavy price to pay for the fame.

I could have sworn that very recently, Barry came out.

I'm sure it is important to them. And to their families and friends. But not very important to me, a complete and total stranger. Which is not to say that I don't care about gay rights, but that if some guy named Bob from Tallahassee decides to come out this afternoon, it won't affect my life at all.

In a perfect world where everyone is accepting of g/l's, that's true. The problem is that many people are not accepting and deny the possiblilty that someone close to them (or that they admire) could possibly be g/l. So the more in the open g/l are, the more people will be forced to deal with their feelings, the more people will come to face the fact that g/l's do exist, and that they don't need to be cured of a problem. It's just a part of who they are.

That is a laudable goal, but I don't think it's worth violating someone's privacy.

Whether it is Clay Aiken, or any other public figure, if they have chosen not to discuss their sexuality in public, that's their choice. They shouldn't be forced (or expected) to make a public declaration just because it would further another group's interest.

I would say the same thing about an illness. How long did Michael J. Fox have Parkinson's before he announced it? There's no shame in having Parkinson's but he chose to keep in private until he wanted to talk about it.

Goodness knows I am certainly not above gossiping about celebrities. I even buy People magazine on occasion. But I do think celebrities should get to keep their sex lives private, if they want to.

That's not the same as saying that a celebrity MUST (as in should be obligated to use their status) to take one for the team.

My brother never "formally" came out. I got to here by a third party (from mom/sis). He just lives life without wearing his sexuality on his sleeve.

To my knowledge Clay has denied all rumors of being homosexual.

To be honest, it frustrates me that people refuse to believe him just because he has some effeminate mannerisms. I know that in some people’s minds that makes him gay, but I don’t see that as definitive proof that he’s “living a lie.” I think all we can really do it take his word for it.

.

But I never said that.

I just think it would be hard to live like that. I wouldn't like to go around pretending I'm gay, all the time; would you?

I've said this, like 100 times now, but my friend said she heard he'd come out on the news yesterday -- I was just wondering, and now I'm really sorry I was wondering! :)

Didn't say he was....oh, boy I screwed up by asking this question....

Kylene - I was on page 2 and you hadn't said anything yet... I got scared. ;)

Now we have to wait on Gail to contradict the Barry statement... don't let me down on this one!!! :)
