Did Clay Aiken come out?

This is what I was thinking, I was just surprised because I have never heard Clay make a singing mistake. I have given up counting the times I have replayed this skit and I laugh and enjoy it every time.
Huh, I didn't recall hearing him croak... only the guy who was singing first. He kind of got really croaky when he first saw Clay ;) Both were able to be heard (at least we both heard the two of him)

As for the OP, I've never heard that for sure honestly. He denied having any relationship with that guy from NY. But I don't listen to everything when it comes to Clay

Ahh...but the bigger question is why do we care?

Well, my friend cares because of the reason I stated. If someone is gay and passing themselves off as straight, I think that's sad for him and said for the world.

If he's not, then I'd like to know I'm not thinking he's living a lie.

The skit cracked me up!! I'm not sure if I like Clay's new look, but I could care less what he looks like...just as long as he continues to sing!! :)

I thougt it sounded like Clay started off with the wrong words - like maybe he jumped in a bit early or late since the wanna-be was well into the song, then Clay had to wait a bit until the guy saw him before he started singing. He sure corrected himself in a hurry though if that was what happened.
I'm glad they cut the other guys mic pretty quickly, but thought Ryan should have pulled him over to sit out the rest of the song a bit sooner than he did.

No comment on the coming out thing. Oh wait, that would make me OT

OK, re: Clay coming out... I don't know. ;)

Maybe he's not. Many stars maintain their private lives out of the spotlight.

Has he been passing himself off as heterosexual?
If he was flaunting girlfriends, then I would agree. Just b/c he hasn't flaunted his sexuality--doesn't necessarily mean that he's living a lie. :confused3

Count me in as one one the confused folks on this thread.....so did he ever say he was gay or not???? :confused3 BTW what is the deal with those bangs in his eyes, he looked sooooooo much better with the spikey hair.

No, you are right. But the thing is, it's still hard for gay people, you know, it just makes it so much easier if someone so well liked comes out, because it makes it that much harder for people to hate or at least not except gay people.

This thread is so confusing... I don't know what the OP wanted to know in the first place? I thought I knew, then I didn't know, then I knew...

But in regards to his sexuality, he has denied any rumors that he is gay.... now if he is or if he isn't, I have no idea, we can really only go by what he says?

I'll have to ask my brother. I'm not sure that he cares. But I don't really know.

I don't follow AI or Clay Aiken, but I thought everyone knew he was gay? Not that it really matters.

I don't mean to pick on Clay -- the burden of legitimizing homosexuality does not rest completely on him :) .

I just think that the only way we're going to get over any problems we all have with homosexuality is when we all have a brother or a son or a favorite singer ;) that is gay.

That's why those gay magazines used to "out" people all the time -- it was like, "admit it -- we all have to be out in the open for everyone's good."

(Not saying it's OK to out people -- I was always uncomfortable with that. But I am relieved when someone can be true to themselves and others.)

But why should it be a celebrities' (or anyone's) obligation to make things easier for others in the same situation? Maybe Clay Aiken just thinks his sexuality isn't anyone else's business.

Isn't that what we always say, anyway? "None of my business what two people do in their bedroom". If it really isn't any of our business, then we shouldn't worry about whether they come out or not, and how that affects us or any gay people that we happen to know.

What constitutes "living a lie" anyway? Clay hasn't said "I am not gay" has he? He hasn't said anything about it, which would indicate he doesn't want to talk about it. Keeping one's private life private isn't "living a lie".

.

See post above yours -- I don't feel like saying it again.

:sad2: This topic has been rehashed SO many times.

This isn't to attack anyone in the thread because I think most people in this particular conversation aren't really trying to :stir: , so here's the thing:

Clay HAS stated he's not gay. If you want the footnoted quotes about it, I'll get them for you. He has stated PLENTY of times that, just because he isn't a womanizer and he loves his momma, people like to think that means something about his sexuality.

It doesn't.

As far as being gay goes, people will continue spreading rumors about it until it becomes "truth". Look at Tom Cruise - people have been saying he's gay for YEARS, and he's been married three times! It doesn't matter what Clay does...there's always going to be people who accuse him of lying about who he "truly" is. It sucks for him, and it sucks for his fans, and it just gets annoying after a while because, as several people have already noted in this thread, it DOESN'T really matter, and we just go in circles about it.

well it would be living a lie in a way... he did deny back in 2003 that he was gay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Aiken

However, I do know people who aren't trying to live a lie and finally "decide" later that they are gay. In that they are kind of internally fighting it themselves. I knew a few people who even got married and finally it hit them, so they come out then. Not that they are intentionally lying, but they just don't "see it" until later. Happened with a friend of ours... we laughed at him (nicely and teasingly) saying "what took you so long, we figured that one out years ago" With the ridicule some get for being gay, I can understand why people deny it (even to themselves) for a long time.

Also, keep in mind that everything I have seen of Clay points to him being a fairly big Christian. If that is the case, he could have a bunch of reasons why he wouldn't say he is or isn't gay.

Now I personally don't know if he is or not. But if he is, it isn't my business and I could understand if he wouldn't want to go around claiming he is.

Personally, I don't care one way or another. He's a bit geeky at heart and reminds me so much of a few of my geeky male friends. I think it is cute to see how he blossomed due to AI though.

OK, OK, I didn't know the history :rolleyes1 .

My friend called me yesterday and said he came out -- I thought maybe he did.

Note to self, add this to the topics that are impossible to discuss on this board, along with HS marching bands and bad service at the Grand Floridian. :rotfl:

And, anyways, is Clay REALLY the person that the gay community looks at and says, "boy, if Clay would just come out, my life would be so much easier. Can you imagine how much more accepted this lifestyle would be if CLAY AIKEN was out supporting us?"

And I ask that as someone with a very close friend who is gay. Clay's sexuality is already a joke...it's not like Vin Diesel coming out. It's not Manny Ramirez saying, "hey guys! I'm gay!" Assuming Clay is gay is just perpetuating all the same stereotypes that I, personally, think the gay community would prefer to steer away from.

I get it....all righty then....move along now, nothing to see here..forget I mentioned it....I got it now.... :)

In a perfect world where everyone is accepting of g/l's, that's true. The problem is that many people are not accepting and deny the possiblilty that someone close to them (or that they admire) could possibly be g/l. So the more in the open g/l are, the more people will be forced to deal with their feelings, the more people will come to face the fact that g/l's do exist, and that they don't need to be cured of a problem. It's just a part of who they are.

I'm sure that many of us who are not g/l (but who are accepting of g/l) have a time in our past when we had this light bulb moment. For me I was in high school and found out that one of my teachers was lesbian (a student was housesitting and found and read her diary :sad2: ). That was my first realization that being lesbian was a part of a person, but doesn't define them as a person. IE, she was the same great teacher and it who she slept with didn't matter to me.

So if Clay is gay and he "comes out" perhaps others will have that light bulb moment.
