Did anyone watch "Medium" last night?

I absolutely love this show and try not to miss it, but last night's episode disturbed me a bit. I'm a little disappointed that the writers chose to have the mom kill herself in order to fulfill Allison's dream that the little boy would grow up and be ok. I kept thinking that maybe the parents would be arrested and Allison and Joe would adopt the boy (since Allison was struggling with getting rid of the baby crib - thought maybe they were going to have her be pregnant next season...)

It just didn't jell for me that the boy goes on so lovingly about his mom's suicide and how great of a mom she was. That was just too much of a stretch.

Anyone else feel at odds with this episode?

It made sense to me and fit with the show's efforts to make the outward appearances of the events realistic. I saw it coming as soon as the mother made the statement that Allison was an angel.

I saw the show. I do understand why they ended it that way. All the shows are disturbing, probably why I watch it Medium. It has a really raw quality to it.

Now I will admit, I did not watch the episode where they involved her daughters. I have a hard time with that.

I wasn’t a big fan of this episode. I don’t mind that the mother killed herself and I think it was a decent ending to the show, but it DID bug me to hear the son going on and on about how great she was. I was really angry about the father – they made him out to be the good guy, which he wasn’t. For one thing, he stood in the way of the investigation by refusing a blood test. Also if he was really involved with his family he would have seen that there was a problem with his wife and it was his responsibility to protect his son. Can someone really be that insane and their spouse doesn’t suspect a thing? (Reminded me of the tragedy several years ago where the wife drowned her five children. The husband knew she was sick but it seems like he just stayed in denial and didn’t do anything about it.) Anyway, the part of the show I disliked the most was when Alison went over to their house to talk to the woman. Did she really think that the mother’s insanity could be suddenly cured by listening to her little speech? Stupid.

Oh, and Vicki, I also thought maybe Alison & Joe would adopt the boy. I felt there should be some sort of tie-in with her refusing to get rid of the crib.

What really disturbed me was the part where they had Allison thinking the Mother should have killed the boy!! Yikes!!

As for the crib I'll bet that she's gonna be pregnant soon.

Best part of the episode IMO. Not the best they ever had (that would be the ones with the older Southern cop) but right up there. IMO this show is better than the rest because of the gutsy writing. Good to see them address nut cases like that mom and not take the nice sitcom way out.

i have to agree with disliking hearing the son go on and on about his mom. Also agree with how disturbing it was when she thought she was supposed to let the mom KILL the boy. i couldn't believe it. DH and i couldn't believe any of it.

We are usually big fans of the show, but really couldn't wrap our heads around this one...

Agreed. I normally do not watch ANY "prime time" shows but I started watching this because I like Arquette and "supernatural" shows, I will admit.
The writing is gutsy. It does look at the ugly side, I like that.

Now I also am watching the new show, "Supernatural" on the WB. I like this one as well. While the wtriting is not as good, the show itself has an interesting quality to it.

I guess what I don't get is the bad feelings about her letting the mother kill the boy. It makes sense to me that if somebody could see the future, they would see how many lives are affected by who lives and dies. Should somebody have killed Ted Bundy if they could have? Should somebody had saved Abe Lincoln if they could have.

This kind of plot line is nothing new, look at the original Twilight Zone series.

See, the main theme in Medium is that she does not know if she SHOULD BE interfering, as she sometimes is wrong, or so she thinks.
My take on that was that she was thinking she should not have saved him for the future harm he was going to cause.
Her boss was the one to tell her that she is to focus on today. That is what prompted her to go talk to the woman and therefore she killed herself based on that conversation.
The mother realized she was the cause of the boy's downfall.

I like this show because it makes me still think of stuff 2 and 3 days later. In reference to the boy going on and on about his mom at the end, there is no alternative - if he knew the truth, that she was the one who actually tried to kill him and then killed herself out of guilt or some weird belief that it would "save" him, he certainly wouldn't have turned out so well.

Her dreams really freak me out and I don't know if I really believe in psychics but I'm darn glad I don't have those kinds of dreams because I'd probably never close my eyes!

I agree that it would have been more harmful for the boy to know the truth about his mother. I didn't like that Allison was confused about what to do about the mother killing the boy but I did understand it.

disney4us2002, I do have dreams like that and it is disturbing. A couple months ago I had a dream about a friend of ours that is in Iraq. In my dream his was driving in a convoy and they were fired on. Someone in the dream died but Kenny was ok. It woke me up out of a sound sleep, I sat straight up shaking and sweating. About 4 days after that we got the news that the dream that I had had happened. Sorry, didn't mean to go off topic.
