Did anyone use the "fine" china yesterday

I have when there were 8 of us. This year there were 12 of us. We used paper. I told dh fine china for 10 or less. Lol we are very casual people--usually.

I did use some serving pieces--the gravy boat and a couple of bowls and a turrean from my wedding china.

At Valentine s day, no matter what we were eating, when the kids were younger, I put out the nice table cloth, candles and china for all six of us in the dining room. The kids thought it great fun to eat really fancy for one day. I need to do that again this year.

I used some serving pieces from my grandmother's china, but not the whole set.

I did use my "lenox china stone" and glass water goblets instead of my corelle and plastic glassware though. I also have some nicer flatware, not silver, and made sure I put out coordinated pieces instead of getting them from the tray with all the mishmashed pieces DH and I had before we married. I specifically chose practical but nice dishware that could coordinate with my grandma's china.

I keep thinking since our kids are grown we should use the nicer stuff for every day like we did before they were born, but we haven't done it.

We'd love to. I have my Grandmother's china and my sister has the silverware. But considering this meal was for 28 (always at least 22) service for 12 just doesn't cut it. I just now finished washing all the eatin' irons, but we used throw-away plates. And lots of crock pots - buffet-style, of course!

I usually use the good china and silver for holidays - just makes it seem more special to me. This year I used the Christmas dishes since we aren't hosting then.

You guys are too classy for me. If I had my way, we would have eaten off of the fine Chinette paper plates I'm the one that gets stick cleaning all that up I would use it for a small dinner party or maybe a romantic dinner for two. There was just something nerve wracking about watching a 3 year-old banging that expensive fork on that expensive china plate that made me cringe Mom even insisted the little ones got the good stuff

Yes, we use the nice stuff, no matter which family is hosting the holidays.

We will tomorrow, when we have our Thanksgiving dinner. Since DW and I always work Thanksgiving, we do our mean the Saturday after.
Using the China is just part of the festivities. Guess it is kind of funny that we have 8 place settings of dinnerware we bought at Target for $60 that we use 363 days a year, and the stuff that we paid $150 a place setting for we only use on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I don't have "silverware" simply because I remember having to polish that stuff when I was little.

I do love my lenox. we have too many folks in my family to set a table so I serve "family" style.

Most definitely I use my china. I like having a day that is "special"

I do this. Must I admit it? lol My son says I must! I want to use paper. As I am cleaning up today I still can't fit it all back where it belongs. China and Silver - out to see the daylight once a year.

We sure did! Was just my hubby and I, but we did it up right! It may not be what everyone else would call 'fine' china, but it is my special kind - Lenox Butterfly Meadow!

I love setting a nice table and use almost any occasion to do so.

My sister used the good, can't go into the dishwasher set she got from our step mom when she downsized. Her dishwasher was broken so hand washing the dishes was the only option, so why not.

Our water heater and garbage disposal went out on tuesday and they couldn't get them fixed until today, so no, I used all the disposables I could yesterday! We don't have a dishwasher, so I already had the "good disposables" bought!

I came in to my fine china when MIL moved to assisted living years ago. It's not a color or pattern I would ever have chosen, but its kinda grown on me. I use it at Thanksgiving and Easter. My sister gave me some beautiful stainless she found in her MILs garage when she died. It is even monogramed with our initial. No one in either side of the family has our initial and why in the heck her MIL had that stainless remains a mystery to us all.

We used our Turkey plates. My Grandmother purchased these for my Mother in 1953. I now have them and can't remember a Thanksgiving dinner without them.

Yep. I've started using mine more since my kids are older. I also read on the CB in another thread about china that if you don't use it, it can become brittle and start cracking. I didn't want that to happen, so I got it out of the hutch and then hand washed it when we were done.

My kids (12, 14, 15, 18) LOVE it when they see the good China come out. It makes the meal even more special.

DW & I turn 60 next year, our DDs are both married, but somehow we still don't use the fine china. Not sure what we're waiting for.
