Did Anyone See the Preview of "Newsies: The Musical" on Ellen Today ?

Ellen had Alan Menken on her Fall premiere show today, and he was talking about how "Newsies" was such a flop in the theater, but slowly gained a following on home video...

They brought out the cast the to sing "Seize the Day" (A great, "unsung" Disney classic, IMO) and although the stage was WAY to small for the production they were trying to perform, one could get a real feel for the show it will become.

Mr. Menken commented on when he is giving a concert, he'll play some tunes from "Beast" and some from "Little Mermaid", but when he gets to the "Newsies" tunes, the crowd goes nuts...

I've been looking for the clip on YouTube to know avail as of yet, but I'm sure it will pop up in a couple of days.

I was watching my recording of The View when I read this. I didn't see Ellen today, but was so surprised when Alan Menken was on The View and introduced the cast for the Seize the Day number and Sante Fe. Their stage was way too small too!

It was pretty good. I have never seen the movie and know nothing about the storyline. But we'll probably end up going to see it on Broadway at some point!

Wow! I haven't thought about that movie in years! DH and I rented it when it came out on video (years ago) and we both really liked it. Surprising, since DH doesn't like musicals.

Thanks for posting that clip, it was really neat to see. I don't know what the Paper Mill Playhouse is but I'm assuming it must be in New York. If it came out here I'd be interested in seeing it.

That's cool! I love that song! My DD did a dance to Seize the Day in her dance recital a couple years ago - it was really cool.
