Did anyone NOT provide transportation?

We're trying to figure out a way to get everyone (around 30 people) to the WP without breaking the bank (ie: no bus).

We're actually just considering giving couples money for a cab.

Did anyone just describe how to get to the WP, and let the guests get there under their own steam?

We're not doing our ceremony at the WP, but we're just giving people directions to the ceremony and reception locations and letting them fend for themselves.

We figured that:

1. They're adults and can make their way in the world, so they should be able to make their way in Disney World

and

2. All the weddings we've been to for our family and friends, we've had to get ourselves where whe need to be ourselves, so why should there be an expectation for anything else?

That's pretty much what my dad said - I just feel bad suggesting that they take a bus and a monorail in wedding gear.

I should get over it. You're right, they're grown ups.

We do plan on giving them tips for riding the bus from their resort to each location (how long in advance to go, which bus stop, etc.) and driving directions.

I am dealing with this now. I have a bus on the budget because I really want to help my older family that is coming. I mean all the "younger" people I would have no problem telling them take a bus to the MK or TTC and catch the resort monorail.

Now instead of the bus I am looking at towncars because a lot of family decided not to stay on property. I have no problem with that since they are saving me money.

We are not providing transporttion --- but then a lot of our guests are driving since we are local or renting a car if they are flying in..

I will say one thing -- if you tell your guests to rely on Disney Transportation, tell them to leave WAY WAY in advance -- cause the only way to get to WP on DT is to go to Grand Floridian and walk over... So if they are staying on property then have to take bus from hotel to theme park then hotel.. Cause buses will not go hotel to hotel!!!

Good Luck on what ever you decide....

we had 17 guests - we gave them all instructions and they all made it fine. Only 3 were using Disney transportation, the rest had rental cards or used cabs on their own. All of our activities were at the WP and GF, so they left their cars parked at the WP all day (we knew we were the only WP ceremony that day). At the end of the day everyone that came over by bus or limo got a ride with someone else that drove, and it worked out just fine for us.

Whew. Thanks folks. You're making me feel much less guilty.

There will be plenty of other things to feel guilty about later. :rotfl:

So, I see your ticker also says "Two Months".

Are we booked for the same day?

We are having about 30 guests and our wedding is at the WP and we have about 8 that are driving in (live in the area), my family (10) and DF's family (5) are taking the limo in two seperate trips and then hopefully we can use the limo again to pick up the remaining 8 guests while we do pics. Then, to get everyone to the reception they can use the monorail, ride with one of the local drivers and the limo for family. The reception is at the CG.

I don't see anything wrong with telling people the locations and them figuring out how to get there themselves. If you still want a bus or other transportation, have you looked into Mears or another transportation company? They may be a little cheaper.

I think we're a couple/few days apart. My ticker gets wonky towards the end of the month. Kind of like my bank account!

ETA: TICKER FIXED!

I wanted to get a taxi account with Mears and give our guests vouchers (or chits) to use. Apparently that's not possible. Boo.

Mears is who Disney uses for their busses, so the price for a bus from them is pretty much the same thing.

Once I know how many people are staying where, we can look into vans, but I'm beginning to think this is one thing to let go of.

Thanks again for all your input, everyone. It's so helpful to know that transportation isn't "expected".

We have to provide transportation as our wedding is in Epcot and that is the only way to get guests into the park. It will then bring them to the reception at ADH and then back to their room.

I am not providing transportation to our desert party later that night. I am just having everyone take Disney transportation from their resort to the front of Epcot or the International Gateway and having them meet a host to escort them into the party.

I was wondering how that would work. If your ceremony is in the World Showcase then why can't your guests get ushered by a castmember in from the International Gateway? Why (other than padding the bill) do they have to take a bus? I've been backstage at Epcot and it's not the magical beginning I would hope to give my guests for a Disney wedding. :rotfl:

As the park is closed for our ceremony in the morning we need bus transportation but since the park is open in the evening we can have a cast memeber walk our guests in. Most people are staying at POFQ so these people will need to take Disney transportation to Epcot and they will meet a CM there. Some people (including my DF and I) are staying at either The Boardwalk or Yacht and Beach Club. We will be meeting a CM at the International Gateway to escort us in. We were originally going to have everyone meet at the International Gateway but for the people coming from POFQ this seemed to difficult. I would rather pay the extra $90 escort fee then a few hundred for our own bus.

See, now we ARE doing a bus for our guests for our Epcot "Wine and Cheese" party.

Our planner made a very good point that since we're getting married in hurricane season, it's much easier in case of rain. The bus would just take everyone to the back up location for snacks, and then the guide would hand out rain ponchos and walk us over to our viewing area.

It didn't feel like a bill padding scenario.
