Crying. What an ending. I just love that show. It has changed so much of my perspective on life and how most of us judge without really knowing. Well I think I was already there but the show has given my thoughts substance for sure.

I have a situation in my own life where I never understood someone's cold and difficult ways. I loved her but never fully understood. And then years after her death a secret came out and that was that. I understood everything in an instant. We all just don't know. We just don't.

Okay, I better stop talking. :goodvibes ;)

Thank goodness TLC picked it up. :thumbsup2

Tell me where you left off so I don't bore you! :lmao:

Found the marriage license, realized the grandparents never lived together, dad was told his mother died, but had heard it was a bad situation...was hoping she didn't die that way.

Why didn't his mom raise him? Did she die outside a bar?

No, there wasn't a lot of information about what really happened around the raising of him. Conflicting information all around. Documents that his father had abused her. Father stating he hadn't. She saying he didn't pay anything. Him saying she was this and that - awful comments. Judge gave her custody but no answer why she didn't keep it. But the mother's mother had died during this period and they wondered if losing someone to help care for the child, maybe while she worked, impacted her decisions.

The emotional part was when Christina sat her Dad down and gave him all the information. First a picture of his mother - which sent a 71 year old back to a boy - just staring and emotionally taking it in. She told him that she had died of cirrhosis of the liver and another issue. That the coroner listed it was because she was an alcoholic. He had no idea of course. And that she had died when he was 13 - his head had always thought 8. She had also remarried because she had a different name.

And then he said "do you have any happy news at all?" as he was overwhelmed.

And she was smart enough to say "yes I do". And she explained that he was the happy news. In that he had such little to work with in his life - from his upbringing and he broke the cycle and was a success in his fatherhood and everything that he had taught them.

And they cried and he was of course touched.

You think that's the end. They go to the cemetery to find her burial place. She has no headstone.

And they look down at the card to find the location and there's four plots for the family and her father's name is listed as the final plot. He was absolutely overwhelmed that his mother wanted him to be buried with her some day and bought the plot. He saw it as love.

Then they fast forward three months. He's bought a tombstone with the three relatives buried, including his mom, and underneath is inscribed "Mom, I found you."

Sighing.

Awwww! What a heart breaking story. But how wonderful that he did rise above and overcome such a hard scrabble childhood! I wish I could have seen it all! Thanks so much for sharing!!!:flower3:

You're welcome. I think it replays next week at 8 pm before the new one at 9 pm.

Next week is Chelsea Handler who I ADORE but I know is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. :lmao:;) Should be interesting. :thumbsup2

Did anyone notice that there were three graves:

1. Father (Christina's great-grandfather)
Ovid Shaw Sept. 26, 1878 to Feb. 13, 1950

His wife, C's great-mother, who died around 1946 is nowhere to be seen.

2. Lavina Shaw (C's grandmother)
Oct. 9, 1921 to March 31, 1955 (died age 33)

3. Delilah Shaw (C's grandmother's sister)
Nov. 25, 1925 to Sept. 29, 1953 (died age 27)

So the great-grandfather makes it to age 71 or so, but his two daughters only live to 33 and 27????? Wow. We know what Lavina died of, but I am sooooo curious about Delilah.

Does anyone have access to Ancestry.com so we could find the answer? It is bugging me.

And the burial lots were owned by the grandfather (Ovid Shaw) and someone named "Constant." Remember her husband accused her of having an affair/living with a man named Michael Constant? There's a story there........

LOVE this show. And I was a sobbing mess towards the end. That head stone really got to me.

Yes, I love this show. The first two have stayed in the states. I hope they go overseas again like last season.

I can only watch bits and pieces otherwise I turn into a blubbering mess.

Really, who are we? It's an overwhelming question for anyone that cares where they came from.

Who was the subject of this week's episode?

Christina Applegate is the episode pps are talking about.

This is the genealogy show, right? Wasn't in on ABC before? I think I remember seeing one last year, can't remember who it was.

Edit: Helen Hunt. And it was NBC.

I watched for the first time because my friend was on the show (she was the family law professor). I loved it, and the ending made me cry!

LOVE this show!

Missed it last night because Tuesday is my Deadliest Catch night! Flipped over a few times during commercials. But, I'm gonna look for this one in re-runs or maybe it will be on demand for free.

Thanks for the heads-up on it.

I haven't watched it since it went to cable. Actually, I didn't even know it was still on as we don't have cable anymore.

Didn't it used to be on network TV?

I love that show. I was adopted at birth and I am always fascinated by those who can trace their family tree biologically.
