Did Anyone Else Bid On The Silent Auction ?

I am just curious of many of you have bid on items that Disney offers for bidding during the cruise ? My husband found the ultimate souvineer for him and actually won it It was the framed set of menus from all of the restaurants on both the Magic and the Wonder. He was the only person who bid on it - thank goodness - and got it for the minimum bid of $150. I am not as thrilled with it as he is but I must admit it does look nice and we are going to hang it behind our kitchen table.

I personally wanted the Castaway Cay picture that is in all of the cabins but I decided that we didn't need to spend another 300 dollars. Plus if we did that we would have been over our customs allowance and we didn't want to have to worry about that.

There really didn't seem to be much interest in the bidding in my opinion. Some items such as a special pin set got really high bids but some of the other stuff just got one or no bids at all. I also didn't see very many people looking at the items when we would go every evening and check on his bid. The starting prices were somewhat high but they generally still seemed cheaper than you could get the items for on eBay.

Anyway I am just being curious and want to know if anyone bid/won anything on the silent auction on their cruise Or did you think people like us were silly for throwing away more money to the mouse

Not me personally, but I know other folks that have bid on items and won them. Pete Werner, who started this site, has that framed menu set and it is beautiful -- enjoy it!

I bid on a used Magic Crew Member chair last year. It was fun checking each day to see what the high bid had risen to. Nope, we didn't get it.

I bid and won 4 large glass beer mugs with the DCL logo from year 2000.

We got millenium charger plates & Dan and Scott got the crew member chair on our cruise last Sept

We bid on the navigational chart for the cruise. We forgot about it and didn't get back to check on the bidding and didn't get it. My dh was disappointed. He loves nautical maps.

We have been on three cruises, and have bid and won an item on each cruise. We have a framed DCL Art-Nouveau poster signed by all the captains from the Magic's first year, a framed poster of the millenium celebration, and a framed photo set of the rear of both ships, with Goofy and Donald. So for me, it has become somewhat of a tradition - sigh . . .

Each one is a special memory for us, and I have them all displayed in the house.

It does seem that many items go for low bid, and that not all items even get a bid. I try to find an item that I like that no one is bidding on, and place the starting bid the night the auction closes.

I have only seen two items go for an outrageous amount. One was an official "crew" windbreaker jacket, and the other was a framed photo of "Captain Mickey" on the deck. Both went for almost double the reserve.

I bid and won the Engine Room Tour in June of
2000, before I could take it I fell on the ship and
twisted my Knee, got to stay in my cabin the rest
of the cruise and they gave the Tour to the next
highest bidder. If I knew then what I know now
I would have crawled down the ladder and went
ahead and taken the tour. Big Bummmmer.

YEs it is true, I have one chair sitting over in the corner. Scott wanted this chair so badly and since I was bidding on something I let him bid on the chair. Well we only got the chair!

hobo1947, I can really sympathize! I too injured my knee on the ship and was in a wheelchair after that...did make it to Castaway Cay in a sand wheelchair tho'! We were fortunate enough to do the engine tour before it was discontinued. It was amazing!
