Did anyone go to this last night? My DD 6 and 8 both want to see it, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate. I know the book has some things in it that are "goofy" but we have not read them. they just saw the previews and thought it looked funny. Thanks for your input.popcorn::

My 8 year old wants to see this too. We read all the books together. I was wondering the same thing about the movie..hope someone can help us out.

*I copied this from another site* Hope it helps you! I think I'm going to pass on it for my son.

Sex & Nudity
EditHistory Rodrick has a "girlie" magazine under his bed. While it is a shown as a motorcycle magazine with a bikini-clad girl on the front, his mother refers to it in ways to make you think there may be more than that inside and Rodrick gets punished for having it. The baby is shown looking at the magazine. The magazine is quiet prominent in the movie and is referred to several times and plays a noticable role in the plot.

Violence & Gore
EditHistory Mild slapstick violence used for comedy.

Profanity
EditHistory Use of words like "crap" "butt" "holy cow"

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking
EditHistory When Rodrick and his friends get out of their band van, white smoke is seen swirling from inside the van, maybe a pot reference, BUT there is also white smoke swirling from the tail pipe.

Frightening/Intense Scenes
EditHistory None

My dd went last night with a friend and her parents but she slept over after. I talked to her last night before bed but all I got was an "it was good". I'm picking her up in a bit and I'll let you know what she says. I'm probably going to take ds to see it tomorrow. He's not going to be happy when he finds out that his sister went. He's read the books for the first time recently and has been excited about the movie.

The girl on the magazine cover looks like she is wearing a bikini. I didn't think it was a big deal at all. My boys, 10 and 7, liked the movie and I thought it was cute.

Okay, so I asked dd about the movie. She says it was "too short" and there was 1 bad word but she couldn't remember what the bad word was. She said "not bad, bad but something I would get in trouble for repeting." This from a child who, much to my delight, still thinks shut up is a curse so I'm sure the bad word is mild. Her friend's parents took their kindergartener last night and they liked the movie.

We read the books with my seven year old. We're taking him and his friend to see the movie today.

In the books, anyway, there's nothing really inappropriate, at least not to us. There's the typical misbehavior and potty humor - stuff like that.

I am taking DS and his friend to see it next weekend for his 9th birthday. After reading the reviews, it doesn't sound too bad to me. But then again, I'm the 'bad mom' who let my son see POTC and Transformers :lmao:.

We took our kids yesterday. I really enjoyed the movie and so did my dh--who normally tries to catch a nap at kids' shows. The kids loved it...I have 10 yr old triplets and a 9 yr old--a mix of two boys and two girls--who had all read the books.

I believe the "bad word" some are referring to is "c-r-a-p". That's a bad word to my kids, and was the first thing my youngest reported to me when we left the theater. "Mom! They said a BAD word!" He also claims there was an "f word" which I believe might have been freak (don't remember an f word, but seems likely that the older brother would have called the younger one a little freak). There's also the smoke swirling out of the band van, but my kids did not equate that to drug use, just an old smoking van. Older kids would be more aware, I'm sure.

Not sure if I'd take a 7 yr old to see it, but my 9 and 10 yr olds loved it! And fwiw, I thought it was a pretty accurate portrayal of middle school.

www.kidsinmind.com will tell you everything you might find offenseive (even if seeing something as mild as a boy in gym class without a shirt one is offiensive to you :rotfl:).

Yes...it was great. My oldest reads the books (12) however; I have little knowledge of the series.

We all went, my 7 and 5 year old included. It was fine. At one point they say, nice butt and in another there is a picture of something like Motorcycle Mama magazine.

We all loved it!

I took DS (9) and his friend (8) last night. They both like it, and did fine with the content.

The older brother character did have the magazine people mentioned, but it was clear that he got in trouble for having it, and why. And I didn't even notice the smoke coming from the van; I doubt the kids thought anything of it.

Being based on diary entries, there is a lot of reflection by the main character, so it actually lends itself very well to anything you might feel you need to dicsuss with your kids. I'd say go.

My DD got to see the premiere (her school got picked to go into NYC to see it) and she said that it was ok but I guess she's more of a Harry Potter fan than Wimpy Kid fan. Now, my 4th grader DD wants to see it - yep, I heard ALL about that it wasn't fair that her elder sister got to go the premiere & meet the authors & actor :lmao:

OK. So it doesn't sound too bad. We let our girls watch I Carly and Hannah Montana. Does it compare with that?

Haven't seen it and probably won't as my kids are older - 11 & 15 - but I hope the movie does well as the author is local and we met him 2 years ago at a Barnes & Noble book signing. Both my kids like to draw and he spent a lot of time talking with them and even let him look through his personal notebook with sketches and writing (it was a mess!) and we thought that was cool!..:thumbsup2

That's really cool!

We're back from seeing it.

I completely missed the smokey van thing. I guess I looked down at my popcorn or something.

The only thing I really didn't like (it being a kids movie) was the use of "freakin'" in there. That's a pet peeve of mine and definitely not something I want my child to repeat.

Other than that, it wasn't bad at all. The magazine thing was very tame. The mom was just angry that Rodrick had it because it exploits women.

We all enjoyed it.

I took my 7 year old and we both enjoyed it. Now I finally know where the "cheese touch" comes from that he and his friends do. :thumbsup2
