Diaper rash help

Im in the same boat, my 1.5 DD has a really bad rash on her butt and it spread down to the back of her thighs, it bleeds on and off and she screams when I use baby wipes on her. I put that Butt Paste on her, didn't work then I tried medicated baby powder, didn't work and now Im trying cornstarch, so far she didn't scream when I wiped her, so Im hoping the cornstartch is helping

just a thought that might bring some pain relief-is this a kid that likes baths? if so, get some aveeno liquid (much less mess than the powdered) oatmeal bath. my kids used this when they had open sores from chicken pocks and it brought alot of relief. in fact they still ask for oatmeal baths when they don't feel good (they think it is a cure all for everything!).

2Sweetangels--get the girl to a pedi right away to see what the heck is going on with her poor rash. It sounds awful.

As for the OP..I'm glad you're taking him in. It took several visits (and several rounds) of antibiotic cream to get rid of DS's fungal infection. It would crop up, we'd treat it and it wou ld go away. 2-3 wks later it was back to the dr's for another 'script cuz it was back again. In the end, the dr suggested we feed him yogurt at least once a day (the kind with the live cultures) to see if that would help. He hasn't had a yeast infection since. :)

I second the recommendation for Lotrimin. It worked wonders for DD.

Try to use a washcloth or wet paper towels when you change her. The baby wipes sting. I will be leaving for the ped in a little bit. I will post what he says when I get back.

FYI - If you can't get them to eat yogurt every day (my kids will for a couple days and then not want any more) they do sell the cultures in little dry packets you can easily add them to a drink or mix them into something else (mashed potato, cereal, even sprinkle it on meat or waffles!). It was called Lactinex and was sold at the pharmacy counter at our grocery store. No prescription required, you just have to ask because it is behind the counter.

Wow..I'll have to remember that if there ever comes a time when DS won't eat his yogurt. Fortunately, there are so many different flavors of yogurt, he never seems to tire of it. :goodvibes

When my kids got this their pediatrician told me to alternate Lotrium af (a cream used for athletes foot) and cortisone with each diaper change until it cleared up. I usually only had to do this for 2 days tops.
My little girl used to have bad diaper rashes when she attended another daycare. I always had a can of the Lotrium spray. After each diaper change, I would spray the entire area and then add a layer of vasaline. We switched daycares in May and she hasn't had a diaper rash since. As others have said, it could also be a yeast infection. OTC creams do the trick. DD is on omnicef now for an ear infection and the "crud" that has been going around so we will probably be dealing with a yeast infection in a few weeks.

It is a yeast. He was given a perscription for a Nystatin and some long T word cream. I am so glad I took him in,

Nystatin is a great drug. We used it for my DD 2 times and it worked super fast. Hope you little guy is feeling better soon.

I have no useful information - but I found it funny that the thread above this one is " Crested Butte - Can someone give me some info?! " :rotfl2:

That is EXACTLY what our pediatrician had us use on DD1 when she got a diaper rash that turned into a yeast infection. It cleared up very well with the use of Lotrimin cream.

Been there with my DS...I am so glad you took him in. For normal rash, I used this for my kids...it worked the best on them:

When my DS had his bad rash once, they gave me vagisil to put on him to clear up the rash....it worked really well.

:cheer2: The nystatin is working! He looks so much better. Thanks for everyones tips. Next time I go to the drug store I am going to stock up on all your great ideas. Hopefully I won't have to use them and he will start using the potty soon.

I am glad the nystatin is working. That is the same stuff we used on DS when he had his bad rash. It does seem to work pretty quickly. :)
