Diana, Princess of Wales

i remember that weekend like yesterday also. it was the weekend before i was headed back to college. my mom and i were spending the weekend with my aunt at her new condo. she didn't have any tv's set up yet and so we were just really shopping and sleeping there.

we got home on monday and i remember my dad opening the door for us CRYING. he though we were crazy for not hearing the news since it seemed to be everywhere.

i was 8 when they were married. july 29. my dad's b-day. we were in disney world. they woke me up a little early so we could get going to breakfast. remember that like it was yesterday too.

Hello, kindred spirits.

It shocks me that is has been teens since her death. I was in England for Andrew and Fergie's wedding and slept on the sidewalk the night before in front of Westminster Abbey. I was 17. But, I GOT my glimpse of Diana and I have a picture to prove it.

I will never forget her and what little I do for charity now (I wish I could do more, trust me) is for her.

I've never cried harder than I did the night she died.

DS19 was 6 when she died. He was just passing through the family room on his way to the laundry room, so I asked him if he knew who she was. He said that he did know who she was, but didn't know a lot about her. He said that he knows a bit about Prince Henry, he remembers reading about how he wanted to serve in the was in Iraq with his fellow soldiers, but ultimately wasn't allowed to. He also knew a little about Prince William.

I filled DS in a little more about Diana, about the humanitarian she was. I'll never forget seeing her in a hospital in Africa, visiting children who had AIDS, and she was actually touching them. You have to remember that back then, people didn't touch people who were known to have AIDS, even casually, such as holding their hands. Scientists and the medical world were just then trying to get the word out that it was OK to hold the hands of people with AIDS (with certain precautions such as not having open wounds, etc), and she was a wonderful example to the world. She wasn't afraid, and she taught her sons well.

She was my age, and her death really shook me up. :sad1:

I've always wondered why I was so touched by her death. I remember being in shock and I remember my mom saying that the reports had first said she was OK and then dead. :(

I was at a weird class reunion we had--20 or 25th reunion of our 6th grade class. We had a blast and my DD who is 16 was 3. I remember her talking about that lady looking like her mommy (how flattering, dear) and about me crying about that lady who looked like me. I cried and cried and watchend for hours upon hours for days and days. I guess I have never really mourned quite like that before---which sounds looney but I was heartbroken.

Loved the wedding, kept up with everything she did...cut her different hairstyles weekly--maybe closer to daily! She had the most requested hairstyles. People were always bringing in photos of her. I remember being sad that no one would ever bring in a Princess Diana photo for a hairstyle again--and they haven't. :(

She was beautiful inside and out and she'll never be forgotten.
