Hi,
We are going to Nassau and see there is one there. My b/f and I went to Diamonds International in Cozumel on a previous cruise and saw great deals. Has anyone bought from them? What were your opinions after the cruise?

Thanks!

"they send you off to college, to gain a little knowledge, and all you want to do is learn how to score!"

I bought a tanzanite and diamond bracelet in Cozumel from DI . . . although I really like it and it will always remembered as a cruise souvenier (for my anniversary and birthday), I think I could have done just as well price-wise here.

I did think St. Thomas and St. Marteen had great diamond prices when we cruised there in 2003

I got pink sapphire and diamond earrings in the DI in Cozumel.

The price was good and everytime I wear the earrings it reminds me of our anniversary cruise.

I bought a tanzanite and diamond ring in Cozumel from DI . I love it. I paid $400 and when i got back it was appraised at double that. It was the best purchase ever! Every time I wear it I think about that cruise. I have larger fingers so it had to be sized, and they did it at no charge in about 3 hours. I just brought it to a local jewelry stire to be cleaned yesterday and got comments on the color of the stone and the design. If you find something you like buy it, there is nothing worse then the "i wish i bought it" Also don't pay first asking price. I got them to come down from $850 to just a little over $400.

At the one in Nassau, I bought a sterling silver bracelet the first time and on the second cruise I bought a diamond birthstone ring. I love both of them. I did not think the prices were bad. If I went back I would buy from them again. My son and my husband also bought rings.

I got a diamond anniversary band at the St.Thomas (main location), which was a great deal. Two years later, we re-visited the store and I really wanted a John Hardy bracelet. We'd talked to the "Shopping in Paradise" dude and got some "duty-free" price range info...and I had an idea of what I could spend (and how much the US retail prices were).

When we got to the DI store in St. Thomas, I was talking to a salesperson and showing him my anniversary band and telling him what I was looking for...he said that he'd get me a really great deal, since I was a repeat customer. We visited several of their stores looking at bracelets, but I wanted something very simple (and relatively inexpensive). The salesperson brought out a bunch of stock and we spent a lot of time looking at different pieces...when all was said and done, I got a really great deal. I mean a really great deal!! I agree with the other folks...don't pay the first price, but also..tell the salesperson what you are looking for and your price range. They want to sell and if they have an idea of what you want/can spend, they will show you merchandise in your price range.

I was very happy with both purchases. Hope this helps. :)

My DW has bought from DI and Tanzanite International. We felt both were very good deals. We liked DI and TI and because they did not seem overly pushy. Some stores the salesmen drove us away because they were so pushy. Stay away from these stores and also the stores that try to sell you something you don't want - just walk away. Some salesmen would even yell to us if they saw us walk by later in the day - no way we would buy from them. We never had these problems with DI and TI.

Before you go look around at home (if possible) and get an idea of prices. You must know what you are looking at and how much you are willing to spend before you go. Education is important to get the best deal.

When you get there, be prepared to negotiate. DW loves to negotiate and drives a hard bargain. Don't be afraid to leave the store and go back. Both purchases were large and took over an hour of hard negotiating. Also, DI and TI often have more than one location at port (not sure about Nassau) so be sure to check out their other locations as inventory does vary. We worked with the manager and DI and he even ran back and forth between stores to show us different items (this was in Costa Maya so it was a short run).

I have gotten good prices at DI both in Cozumel and St. Thomas. However, I did have difficulties each time. In Cozumel, everything was on "special" so the voucher I got from the shopping expert was no good. Did talk to the manager and got a pretty good price. Appraised for significantly higher at home. In St. Thomas got salesperson to write down info about the diamond necklace I was shopping for so I could shop around. Price was better at DI so I went back. When she was filling out the purchase receipt she changed the lowest grade of the diamonds. That bothered me and I almost said forget it. I felt that it was an intentional mis-representation.

I would shop there again but would be better prepared.

I purchased a tanzinite & diamond pendant in Nassau, I live in NY, I was able to buy matching earrings (same size as the pendant) for the same price that I paid for the pendant. I diffinately feel I over paid in Nassau-- I will not purchased jewelry out of the county again!. Like I said before I live in NY so Canal St, is only 1hr away....

Thanks everybody for the tips. I guess it's not worth pushing the engagement thing with my b/f down there then, if he can probably get just as good a deal in the states.

Diamond s International is my wifes FAVORITE store, next to Marshalls. I would be a wealthier man if I could keep Her out of both these stores. But after 35 years of wedded bliss how can you say no to the prettiest lady on board the ship??????????
