Diamond Earrings for DD

I laughed when I read that too, but I knew she meant PAWN shop. Actually, she is right, you can find great deals there. I don't shop at pawn shops but I know a lot of guys who shop at pawn shops.

Ditto -- diamonds are something people unload when they need money, and the resale is horrible, so pawn shops provide a great opportunity to pick up something higher quality for less. It doesn't take much training to be able to spot a good diamond.

I received my first studs as a college graduation present from my grandparents over 15 years ago and I am actually wearing them today. They are one of my few "real" pieces I wear often for one major reason, they have screw on backs so I don't have to worry about one falling out. I don't know the exact size of mine and I really wouldn't guess but if you are considering diamond studs, I would recommend the screw on backs, also mine are in an enhanced setting which means they look bigger than they are. I love them and they work for everyday or dress up.

As for if you daughter is responsible enough for them, only you can decide that.

What a wonderful surprise any gift will be to your daughter :-) When I was 14 I received a 14k aquamarine ring and I still wear it to this day; it's one of my favorite presents I've ever received.

Unfortunately, gold prices, though dropping recently, skyrocketed from what they used to be. That being said, you can definitely find deals out there.

The aforementioned white sapphire earrings do sell for around I believe $199 on Macy's special days.

A charm bracelet would be lovely but gold charm bracelets can be very expensive. Great deals can be had on Ebay, but that could be a lot of work. For her age and the budget, Piercing pagoda has this bracelet:

14K Gold 4mm Spiral Link Charm Bracelet - 7.25

It's a great affordable option. Pandora and Alex and Ani are fun options too, but yellow gold and charm bracelets are making a comeback. I think it could be a very special present with an added affordable charm.

I'll add these Macy's sterling silver diamond flower earrings to the mix:

These under $65 sterling silver diamond bow earrings from Ross Simons:

And these $168.75 14k gold diamond earrings from Ross Simons:

I know many women would love a box from Tiffany's so there are these affordable options from there:

$125 Double heart tag pendant

$150 Tiffany Infinity ring

$150 return to Tiffany bead bracelet
http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Ite...+-pu+-f+false+2-lr+5-hr+250-ri+-mi+-pp+3572+6

I also think a gold gemstone ring could be lovely or Macy's during their special days sells a pair of 14k gold pearl stud earrings for around $59.

Hope this is helpful :-)

If you are still looking for a charm bracelet try James Avery. They have silver and gold charms/bracelets, they are super popular here in south Texas. They have an online store and have a great selection.

My husband gave me a pair from Kohl's almost 20 years ago. They are .30 TW and have the screw on backs. I wear them all the time as I have 2 holes in each ear. They have been great.

If anyone fines any nice 14K GOLD earrings that a teen would love, let me know. Curse of family genes that women in my family can't wear less than 14K (allergy). I can stock up on a few sets for Christmas.

The most memorable pieces of jewelry I have are:
- A simple but very nice quality pearl strand necklace, that was specifically from just my father as opposed to both of my parents (long story but I was an awful Daddy's girl so the fact that it was from him makes it extra special). Pearls were a bit more "in" at the time, but they will always be a classic that I think everyone should own.
- An aquamarine ring, that was made from a stone from a necklace my mother had. The fact that she tore up one of her own favorite necklaces to make a ring for me was very meaningful. Plans were to give my sister a matching ring but that never happened (another long story).
- The gold cross my mother wore on her wedding day.

I think hand-me down jewelry can be as meaningful or even more meaningful than new stuff - only one of the pieces above was new, yet those are the ones that are my most precious. You might want to see if there is a special piece in your own jewelry box that you would be willing to pass down to your daughter at this point. It is a bit of a risk so you have to ready - kids certainly lose things a lot - but showing that trust in her is what adds an extra level of special-ness.

We gave DD a pair of black diamond studs a few years back..I swear she never takes them off. They are stunning really, very sparkly and hip. I got them off ICE.com but had a special code thru GMA years back. I admired them so much I bought these for myself.

Looks like they are on sale again!I have since given a pair to my SIL and 2 friends..all love them. While SS, they have held up great and $50 is a steal.

Here are the ones from ICE

however I got them for 60% off

Somewhat of a tangent but what about when/if you DO lose a diamond earring? I'm not irresponsible I swear, but I did lose one last week after wearing them daily for years (I do not have screw on backs... no clue there was such a thing). They are small since I wear them in my second piercing and were only $99 at Fred Meyers during a Christmas sale a few years ago. I'm starting to get worried that I will never find a replacement and I really don't want to buy a new set.

Earrings can get easily lost. And when I was a child, my ear lobe absorbed a stud. They had to pull of from behind to her it out. OuCH!

My daughter just had her sacrament of Confirmafion. We bought her a sterling silver chain and dove from Tiffany as her gift. She loves it and is taking great care of it. I did impress upon her the material cost of the gift to understand that this wasn't dime store fun jewelry and needed to be handled with care.

For me--earring backs fall off and earrings fall out often enough that I just stick to inexpensive earrings for the most part.

If you do to the diAmond earring route, I would encourage a screw back to mitigate to make if more difficult to lose accidentally.

If you think keeping track of the parts of a pr. of stud earrings might be a problem, you might want to consider small lever-back wires instead. I have a lovely pr. of pear-shaped white sapphires in a setting like this one; they stay put nicely.

Go to Nordstrom and get her a pair of CZ studs. I wear mine and everyone compliments me, including my sister, who thought they were real. $35. Done.

Why worry about losing something like that when a substitute gives the same effect? Put the money you save in her bank account.

I bought 3 CZ pairs in various sizes at a Macy's one day sale. Co-worker REALLY liked them so I told her the truth so she could get a pair. The trick is getting decent looking settings. I like the look of the basket settings.
