Dialect Quiz

I got an error the first time also. When it finished it was pretty close. It gave Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis and I'm just north of Milwaukee.

Portland/Vancouver, WA exactly right

No options for a Canadian, but as close as they could get for me.
Detroit, Grand Rapids, Spokane.

I also got Grand Rapids, so your mix with Spokane was interesting to me. (plus my grandmother was from Grand Rapids)

It has me in Nor Cal, but I am a So Cal native. Same state, but very different.

Drive Thru Liquor store? Rain ? I am not sure what those things are. LOL :-)

It put me in Pittsburgh, which is where I grew up, but moved away at 18! I guess some things have stuck (devils night, lightning bugs, tennis shoes) even though I've made a conscious effort to change some of the things I grew up saying/hearing (like supper, yinz, pop etc).

Pretty entertaining! Some of the questions never occurred to me as being location specific! :)

It put me from my hometown in Wisconsin and one town in northern IL since I am living there now.

DH was interesting though. He is not a native English speaker. He speaks Dutch as his first language but for him it also said the exact same cities as me so it make sense that I had a lot of influence on his English and he is around that area a lot.

I got the exact same thing and am also Canadian.

I grew up in Montreal area but have lived in BC for 15 years.

Gave me Rockford, IL and Aurora, IL along with Grand Rapids, MI.

My Dad grew up in Rockford. I went to college in GR (and grew up in within a 60 mile radius).

I got Birmingham, AL, Mobile, AL, & Jackson, MS.

I live (& have lived) in Tennessee my whole life, but my mom is from Alabama. I'm not sure where the Jackson, MS comes from!

Coincidentally, when DH took the quiz, he got the same 3 cities as I did, & he's also from TN. His parents are from TN as well. So I guess my Alabama roots have rubbed off on him! LOL!

So close its uncanny. My top 3 cities are Mobile, AL, Montgomery, AL, and Columbus, GA. Considering that I graduated from Mobile County HS and I now live 1-1/2hrs from Columbus, I'd say that's pretty accurate.

You can take the girl out of Alabama, but you can't take the Alabama out of the girl: Roll Tide!

I'm from a suburb of Cleveland and one of the three cities were pretty close, Akron. The other two it guessed were Lincoln and Omaha but I've never even been in Nebraska.

I took this quiz several times and I had different areas for my dialect each time. Interesting! Each time some of the questions were different.

First time it had me Jacksonville, FL. The second time it had me PA and the last time California.

We call a drive through liquor store a drive through liquor store. Why isn't THAT an option?

Weird. It had me from

Little Rock (Ark.)
Shreveport (LA)
Jackson (MS)

I am from TEXAS!?!?!? They didn't even get the state right. I'll try again.

ETA: Tried again. No better. Apparently, I confuse it.

It was perfect for me. It listed Toledo (the town I was born in and spent large chunks of my summers), Detroit (where I grew up), and Grand Rapids (one of the closest "big" cities to the small town where I have lived the last 15+ years.
