Diagnostic with cancer. How long to cancel dinner reservations?

Just have been diagnostic with breast cancer.
I have already made all my reservations fore May.
How long in advance I have to cancel my reservations?

I believe it depends on the reservation. At most places I think you could cancel even the day off and it not cost you anything. But when I made my ressie for our anniversary at Cali Grill they took my credit card number and said that if I did not show, or cancelled I think it was like 48 hours or less out from the ressie time they would charge me $20. So if they don't take your credit card number for that ressie I think you can just cancel whenever you want.

But of course always cancel as soon as you know to help others out.

Also I hope everything goes smoothly with treatment! Are you thinking of not taking your trip?

Unless you have a reservation for a signature restaurant or a dinner show where your credit card will be charged if you don't show or charged already, you don't even have to cancel the reservation. However, it would be nice to do that as soon as you know for sure that you aren't going to use it. Post which restaurants your resrvations are at and we can help you with the ones you need to cancel that has a charge card associated with it. Those are very few, though.

Sorry to hear about your health. The same thing happened to me. We had planned a wonderful vacation and then got my bad news. We didnt cancel -- we just postponed. Dreaming of the Magic Kingdom brought me many happy moments during the treatments of surgery, chemo, and radiation.

We went 60 days after finishing radiation and while I wasnt able to go every day to the parks, I did go every other day. I loved having Disney as my reward for enduring the tough times.

I am with the poster above. If you are feeling up to it you should go. It might just give you a boost of strength to help you get through your treatment.

If you are not up to it maybe you should postpone it instead and have a celebration trip.

Keep a positive attitude and you will be fine. Sure it is a tough road but it is a battle worth fighting.

Same thing happened to us...we kept our dates for our trip and hoped for the best. We went to Disneyland as planned 10 days after my surgery. Thankfully, it was found to be benign and aside from yearly follow-ups all has been well since.

I had to chime in here as I am in the same boat. I was just diagnosed this past wednesday. At this point I have no intention of cancelling my trip in April because it is the one thing I am looking forward to. My aunt was in the same boat and traveled during her chemo and did fine. To the OP before you decide to cancel your trip see how things play out for you. I know that right now you are probably just like me and have a million things going through your mind, I know I sure do, but dont act right away until you know the plan. I have discussed this issue with several people and they all say the same thing, dont cancel unless it is absolutely necessary. You need something to hold onto. I am determined to take mine. I agree! Hang in there. Everything will be OK. I am sure this is a shock to you and your family but there is a very real possibility today that you will be doing well by May and can take your trip.

Hang in there, stay strong & don't cancel your ressies yet. Once you have a schedule, see how you feel while undergoing treatment.

My DSis was diagnosed w/stage 3b breast cancer in Aug 2006. She had a trip to Hawaii planned for Aug 2007 and that trip kept her fighting. She went on her trip and just joined us in WDW last month. All this while still undergoing chemo.

I'm sure your head is spinning right now and you don't know which way is up, but wait and see how you feel.

I'm not saying to cancel for May, but if you have to, consider October. There's a Race for the Cure event then, and it might be a nice time to be there.

My mom has been dealing with cancer as well. We have made Disney trips since her treatments, and what she noticed most of all was that her stamina was way down, even a year after the chemo. So we do rent an ECV for her at the parks, and that helps a lot (she was able to get around the resort fine without one). Whether you decide to go in May or postpone until later in the year, don't be afraid to rent one if you need it. She said it made a world of difference in her ability to enjoy the parks.

If you decide you do want to postpone your trip, ADR's can be cancelled as late as the day of your reservation, although the earlier you cancel, the earlier another person will be able to get a reservation at that restaurant. You would cancel the May ones and make new ones for the postponed trip.

I totally agree! I didn't cancel any my trips during my breast cancer treatment (almost 6 years ago), and even was able to work with the docs so I was able to do my scheduled Alaska cruise.

May is a long way off, and you're LIVING with cancer....so don't assume you need to quit living while you're undergoing treatment. The more active you stay, the easier it will be - and of course it helps to have something (like your trip) to look forward to!

Best of luck to both of you! I was pleasantly surprised that cancer was easier than I'd feared, and hope you have the same experience.

May positive thoughts and prayers be with you both as you begin your journey to recovery. An old business adage that I've lived by in life - "Never make a decision until you HAVE to make a decision". In the past, Disney has been VERY flexible in these situations - so don't rush to change anything right now. A trip may just be what you need in May sjaakie!

I had a trip planned to Hawaii for DS's wedding when I got my diagnosis. I planned with my oncologist on my chemo treatments and lukine shots so that I was still able to go to Maui. Yes, I was bald and I had a few days that were tougher to get through because I was tired, but I did not cancel my trip. I wore a ball cap to cover the noggin and had to skip a few daily injections (with approval of doctor) but other than that, the quality of time on this vacation was no different than any other I'd taken.

I wouldn't cancel anything at this point. You might find, as I did, that the break from the daily grind of treatment ended up providing me with some R&R. Food will not taste right but the vacation may be very good for you.

Good luck. I'm off to WDW in Jan to celebrate one year from my surgery and the fact that 2007--the longest year I've ever had--is finally over!!!!

All the best for your recovery. My aunt is a breast cancer survivor and although she was tired after treatment she still managed to live a little. WAit a while before you cancel, you need to give 2 days notice to cancel ADR's so see how you go.
