Good afternoon, everyone!

My mom is coming on our November trip, and she is diabetic, but currently controls her sugar by diet alone. I know that when we are at TS meal, the waitstaff can assist her when she orders. With the limited menus at QS locations, I was wondering if there are any that already had a diabetic-friendly menu. I know substitutions can be made, but are there any QS where that process is easier because of the original menu is blood sugar friendly? Less jumping through hoops to get her some lunch?

We are planning to have lunch in the parks all through the trip.

They don't give any nutritional information anywhere at WDW, other than the Mickey Check Meals and I think Be Our Guest has put out nutritional information. So it's hard to say.

I'm on a low-sodium diet and the only things I would eat at QS were the Mickey Check Meals because at least I had some idea of the sodium levels. Still very vague but better than nothing. Here is the link to the Mickey Check guidelines. This info is only for the Mickey Check Meals, I'm not sure if it says that on there

I don't know of any QS that would be better than any other. It would depend on what she likes to eat as well.

While Disney keeps attempting to offer healthier options, unfortunately, most of Disney Qwik Serves are geared toward junk food (because that's how Americans eat). But truly, there will be plenty of salad & protein options that should work for you.....

Because if your mom is able to regulate her diabetes through diet alone, she'll know what she can and cannot eat - and that mostly includes the copious carbohydrates and/or sauces which can easily be avoided.

I regulate my diabetes with pills (and Mickey Bars) and would suggest these Qwik Serve places:
MK - Columbia Harbor House
EP - Sunshine Seasons
AK - Santuli Canteen
HS - popcorn (or ABC Commissary)

But have your mom take a look at some of the Qwik Serve menus after you've gathered some suggestions - she'll know what's best for her.

I've eaten low carb on QSDP. It takes a little planning, just like any specific dietary need or preference. As stated by PP, salads with protein (usually chicken or salmon) is readily available in any park. Note that the full-fat salad dressings are lower in carbs than the "light" dressings. Caesar salads are always a good bet, just toss the croutons. Salads can get boring after a while though so that is where looking at the menus ahead of time comes in handy. Rotisserie chicken is usually easy to find and if the QS serves a low carb veggie with a different meal, are usually agreeable to swapping out the high-carb potatoes (mashed or fries) that seem to come with most meals. I'm looking forward to a fajita platter at Pecos Bill's on my next trip - just toss the tortillas and load up on low-carb toppings at the bar. Yum! Flametree BBQ at AK has pulled pork - leave off the sauce. I wouldn't eat any of their sides though. Even coleslaw usually has sugar in it.

Finally, don't rely on "no sugar" desserts. They are usually full of carbs, sometimes even more than the regular dessert. If dessert is a must, then just a bite or two of a high fat regular dessert is a better bet, like cheesecake.

This is something she's probably going to have to rely on herself for. It's easy enough to order a salad, or a burger with no bun, grilled chicken, etc. As a diabetic, she should know what to avoid. High protein, low carb, complex carbs (not many of those at WDW).

Columbia Harbor House has a grilled salmon with steamed broccoli that is really, really good.

Thanks, everyone! My mom's computer is currently on the fritz, but I'll refer her to the online menus when it is back up. This trip has become a bit of "Heathbarios, just tell us where to go and when" so I thought coming in with some good lunch suggestions for Mom would be helpful in the long run. I totally trust her, but I want to make it easier for her. I have, in a way, become Disney Information Central for my family (probably because of these boards).

About salads, if she gets one, ask for the dressing on the side. I had a Caeser salad at the Tomorrowland Terrace, that was so soaked in dressing, I couldn't eat it. I would have sent it back, but this was a couple months ago, and summer crowds were really busy.
