Through blood tests, I found out out I am not diabetic, but will be. :(
The doc didn't call it borderline. And I read an article that said there was no such thing as borderline diabetes, any more than someone could be borderline pregnant.
My blood sugar level was just slightly above. Enough that scared the heck out of me and I radically changed my eating habits. And surprisingly enough, stopping the sweets, chocolate and snacking really has not bothered me. So guess I was ready for it.
I use to drink two Cokes a day (among other sickening sweet things). That ceased pronto. I have tried about four diet colas over the last two+ weeks. And rather drink water. :p Although I have found I really like spring water with half a lime squeezed in. :)
And knowing/realizing everyone is different, I am following up with my doc, disclaimer, yada, yada, yada, I was hoping for some helpful hints from those with experience in this area. :)
I need to go to classes, and plan to. Just right now I won't be able to immediately.
My treadmill may finally get some use! ;) It;s COLD out!! bbrrrrrrr
(My father was diabetic. Other than that, no one else in my family has had it that I know.)
The one thing I really will miss is the starchy stuff. Give me starches and some cheese and I'm all set. I never have been much of a meat eater. So that will be the biggest switch for me. Giving up starches for protein. :(

I am not a diabetic but am checked regularly for it. Both of my grandmothers were. One found out she had it in her 70's and controlled hers with a pill. The other found out she was a diabetic in her 20's and gave herself a shot of insulin for hers. My mother in law is also a diabetic and controlls hers by her eating. I too thought that either you were or you weren't a diabetic. I am sure that someone here can help you with your answers. I think that my granny I was so close to, mainly had to stay away from sugars. I do know that all three have to eat on a regular schedule. {{{{HUGS}}}} to you!

My mom found out in 2000, when she was 50 years old, that she is diabetic and my grandma found out in 2001, she's over 70 years old, that she is diabetic! So, I'm pretty sure I'll be diabetic, too.

Both my mom and my grandma initially controlled their diabetes w/ pills. But now, both of them control their diabetes with diet and exercise. They both give themselves one "free meal" a week where they eat whatever they want (within reason) for one meal. My grandma lives for that meal! LOL!! My mom didn't really have a hard time adjusting...I think the hardest part for her was making herself eat all the time at first...now if she doesn't eat she feels bad. I think my mom probably lost over 50 pounds since she found out she's diabetic. And my grandma probably lost close to that, too. It really is a lifestyle change...it'll probably take a while too figure out what you can eat in what proportions, but after a couple of months it'll be second nature!

three veggies out when my MIL comes for supper......brocolli ....spinach......brussel sprouts.....alot of salads too.......I of course didnt' think about the starch ones....like carrots....peas....corn.....but remember you can have some......just stay within the guidelines.....I make my mother in law pies with jello no sugar cook pie ....and use a graham cracker crust......she was served angel food cakes in the hospitals when she was being treated for her diabetes once.....that is a good snack for you .....best advice the doctor gave her was if you follow a good healthy choice diet.....at the time was weight watchers.....you will be on the right track......hope you stay healthy

Sounds as if you are a candidate for Type II -non insulin dependent diabetes.

You are on the right track.. diet and exercise will help control your blood glucose levels. Carbohydrates cause increased glucose levels.. but you need to have carbs in your diet-they are your energy source.. Diabetes is a balancing act, one that takes practice.

Yes, you do need to go to some diabetic training classes even the local support group will give you help.
Research www.diabetes.org this will give you lots and lots of information.

I have been insulin dependent for a very long time. There are many complications that can arise from poor management of the disease. Some complications arise no matter how good you take care of yourself. It is life ...
Best wishes.

I recently found out I have type II diabetes. It was a change to make and my dr. also told me there is no such thing as borderline you either are or not.

I went to some classes that were very helpful. In one you met with a dietician(sp) and they helped you with a meal plan, and that was vey helpful, you have to watch your carbs. It is a lot like the weight watchers meal plans, basically it is just balanced meals.

I am on oral meds. now but with luck my dr. said that with some weight loss and watching what I eat it is very possible to get off the meds.
