There are plenty of low-carb entrees so I'm not concerned with finding food. My question, if I explain my dietary limitations will I be able to substitute and appetizer for a dessert? Has anyone tried this with success?

Thanks in advance!

It's never allowed, under any circumstances.

I believe I've seen two posts since 2008 from persons who said it could be done - one was a "I was told that my best friend's brother's cousin's wife was allowed to do it" sort of thing and I think the other was trying to stir the pot on the boards.

While you will be unable to trade your dessert for an appetizer, you should be able to request an alternative dessert.

Along that same thought, do you know if they have been known to switch out carbs from the entre? In other words trade potatos for a larger portion of vegtables? That would make desert more possible for most of us diabetics.

Usually when it comes to trading sides, if the side is offered on another entree you can sub it for you entree. If the side is only listed for a separate price, then you will not be able to sub it onto your entree.

The only other restriction would be for any Prix Fixe menus. There are no substitutions allowed on these.

Not happening! Me and my mom are both diabetics, with my mom being more brittle than I am. She knows the answer is no, but she's elderly and stubborn and still frequently tries to get an appetizer in place of dessert. She's been turned down every single time. lol As an AP holder I go down there 4-6 times a year. I've never had a problem with my blood sugar down there. They usually have a sugar free option listed under the desserts or sometimes will let you get fresh fruit. I also frequently get cheese plates as my dessert at the signature restaurants.

I am not a potato eater, so often have them substitute extra green veggies or a side from another entree. If you want to substitute a side that's listed with another entree they'll let you do that (unless it's one of the chef's selections that some of the restaurants offer. With them you must choose one of the appetizers, entrees, and desserts that's listed and they allow absolutely no substitution for any reason). Some restaurants have separate sides that are listed at the bottom of the menus. The only two restaurants I've ever been able to substitute for one of those are Yachtsman and Artist Point.

There's always a sugar free option for dessert... if you don't see it on the menu, then ask :thumbsup2

WDW is very diabetic friendly but the onus is on you to ask and make the right choices... not always easy I'll admit... just looking at the cupcakes sends my sugar into the stratosphere!! :lmao:

Not going to happen. If being Diabetic made it to where Disney allowed you to sub a dessert in for an appetizer, do you know how many ppl would ALL OF A SUDDEN become Diabetic just so they could have apps? They will never allow that as long as the dining plan does not include apps.

remember that some of the sugar free items (unless its sugar free jello) have more carbs in them then a regular dessert...sometimes I get a dessert and just eat half of it...because it is yummy and I can handle the carbs better that way..

Thank you for the suguestion. That is what I was looking for, the ability to trade potato's for brocoli. It's better than just passing on the desert alltogether.
