No, she is 12 years old and taller than I am.....not that that is saying much of course (I am vertically challenged ). I might look into the frio bag thing but I couldn't see one for pumps. She uses a belt clip also.....not a waist belt or pocket.

We've never cooked pump insulin. Tubing is the most likely to have the insulin crystallize, and the frio for a pump won't cover that anyway. (if they even still make it, and if they do she won't be able to wear a clip) If you're good about making her tuck in the tubing she should be fine. Though, I completely know how it just hangs out. Upside, makes PWDs easy to spot. LOL
It's sort of one of those worries that really aren't.

Got a frio bag to carry her insulin in for just in case we need to change her pump set-up in the parks. At least it will be kept cool so it won't spoil in the August heat. My big worry is that we would have site issues and not have supplies to change it. That would really ruin a good park day.

I am on the medtronic pump and I fill a resior up and just take that to the park ( that way if it get to hot you did not lose a whole vile of insulin) I also carry 2 extra infusion set with me that way if it comes out I can do a quick sit change ( and I also carry 3 syringes with me)

I am not sure what pump she is on but medtronic you can take the needle off the resior you need to do this so air dose not get in also but the resior in a bag ( I use a zipplock) this way water will not get on it ( if that happens you will not be able to use it and make sure you take the needle and the plugger with you that way you can get any air bubble out that might have found there way in. and I would not and I repeat NOT UES THE FRIDGE IN DISNEY!!! FOR INSULIN or any other hotel room) I think every time I have used it my insulin has froze Insulin is fine for 28 days at rood temp if you are very worried get another FRIO and put the insulin in there and just leave it in your room

Nope it's all perfectly clear. We will be staying onsite at Universal and then on to a house rental. Hopefully Universal fridges are better than Disney ones.....maybe room temperature wouldn't hurt for 4 days and then use the fridge at the house. My daughter is also using a Medtronic pump so thanks for the suggestions......very helpful!

The problem is not Disney refrigerators, but the fact that those small dorm sized refrigerators don't forget a good job of keeping a stable temperature, especially if there is very little in them and what is in them is liquid.
The other issue is that when they get turned on, they often get set to the coldest setting - sometimes it's because people think they will cool off faster and then they mean to turn it back to a more 'middle'setting. So, it's best to turn it on to a medium setting in the first place.

The only thing is, we are Canadian and apparently US pharmacies will not honour a prescription from a Canadian dr. The last time we travelled, I asked the Walmart pharmacist if we would be able to access our prescription at a Walmart in Florida and we were told no; that we would have to see a dr in Florida to obtain a new prescription. :/

Walmart dose sell insulin with out an RX but it is the older NPH so if you have to that might get you through if your insulin frezzes

The last time we travelled, I asked the Walmart pharmacist if we would be able to access our prescription at a Walmart in Florida and we were told no; that we would have to see a dr in Florida to obtain a new prescription. :/

The good thing I found about the US is you can to a walk in clinic quickly (for a fee) and get a new rx.

I think that's the best suggestion. If you have insulin in your pump, you probably don't need to bring any extra for the day, just syringes (you can draw from the pump reservoir in an emergency) and new infusion sets. If you have a problem with the infusion sets sticking, it will be worse in the heat with sweat. I use a product from Animas called SkinTac. I'm sure Medtronic has something similar.
If you change your reservoir every day (after you get out of the heat), that would be ideal. I would keep the existing tubing and set every second day, but make sure to prime all of the old insulin out of the tube.
I wear my pump on my belt as well. I make sure my shirt hangs over my pump and tubing to try to protect it somewhat. We tend to go in August every year and have never had an issue.

skin tac is a stand a loan product it is not just from the Animus pumps you can get it by going to skin tac web site or off of amazon ( amazon is probable much cheeper then animus sells

Does skin tac work well with swimming? I find that too much time spent in the pool tends to compromise the adhesive surrounding the insertion site. Of course, in Florida I expect there will be lots of times that she will spend hours at a time swimming. It would be great if this product would help with that.

Absoletely. I had issues without anything with just sweat in the summer and use Skintac all the time now. It has stood the test of Disney in August, waterparks (with the pump attached), swimming (with and without the pump attached), and the occasional doorknob catch (it's 50-50 who wins on that the skintac or the doorknob).
Note that if you have hair near your site, it may remove that too.
There is also another product called skinprep. It is the same idea but with less adhesive.

skin tack works great for keeping a set on I have also tried tap this tape is made for infusion set as it has a cut out where you can disconnect https://medtronicdiabetes.secure.fo...es/infusion-set-iv3000/transparent-dressing-1 if you are really worried about the infusion set coming off but skin tack ( or what ever you chose to use ) do not put it where the needle goes then put it around the edges where the tape meets the skin then put the tape on top of that. this will keep your set on just about no matter what you do ( I have a hard time getting it off but at lest it stays )

skin tac is what we use too. We have good luck doing an alcohol wipe first, then skin tac. Sites stay on pretty well. We also plan to change the site daily if needed, usually we'll get 2 days though with lots of swimming. But we just plan for that. And we never carry extra insulin or extra pump supplies with us in the park since we just stay on site anyway. Just glucose tabs, glucagon, other snacks and meter and strips.
