DHS - Why is the food/restaurants so "uninspired?"

I was thinking about all of the different parks and what their food offerings are. It seems like ALL of the parks - except DHS - have a couple of really good restaurants.

MK has Cosmic Rays and Pecos Bills for Counter Service, and both get consistently good reviews. Crystal Palace, The Plaza and several other sit-down restaurants consistently get good reviews.

AK has Tusker House, Yak and Yeti and a couple of other places that get rave reviews, both sit-down and counter service. It seems like the options are endless.

Epcot - well, what can you say about Epcot? There are only a few "bad" choices at Epcot.

But DHS...really, what do they have to offer? 50s Prime Time is okay, and Sci-Fi is decent for lunch. HBD is a 2TS restaurant, so I can't really count that as a great offering. And the counter service restaurants all seem to be blah at best.

Why is that??? Why is DHS so much different than the other park in terms of food offerings?

Have to agree.

Althougth the BD is a must do for us, it isn't quite as good as the other signature restaurants.

The food needs an upgrade at MM.

H&V haven't been to in 10 yrs didn't like it.

Can't get the DH into 50's because he he likes to eat in peace.

Do very much enjoy Sci-Fi at lunch.

Wouldn't it be great if they put in a really good TSM counter service place? Something with a carnival atmosphere and good food.

I agree entirely. I often skip that park on short trips because of the lack of enticing food options! The only foodi look forward to there is Starring Rolls bakery on an early morning.

I will never eat at 50's no matter how you try to convince me for the same reason. If I wanted to be harrased while eating, I'd actually GO to my grandmother's house.

We were very disappointed in the menu at Sci-Fi. LOVED the theme but felt the dinner menu was very out of place. We kind of expected drive in food- burgers, sandwiches and such- maybe dressed up a little bit to not seem so fast food like. We always eat there when we go to HS but only for lunch.

I really thought about doing 50s dinner until I heard about the "entertainment" I am so not into it and hubby would hate it...

I wish you could do H&V for lunch for fantasmic. We arent really breakfast people (we'll eat it but not really hungry in the morning and the price of those buffets for breakfast when you really arent eating that much isnt worth it to us but I really want to do the characters as DS loves Disney Junior but now that forces us to do 2 TS at Hollywood studios...thinging best bet is MM (is BD 1TS for lunch?).

I do agree that DHS is a bit lacking in the food department i dont think it is that bad. I think that AK has a similar problem (we usually have a big breakfast before we arrive at AK then go for a counter service in MK/Epcot).

During my families last trip in august we had an outstanding meal at Sci-Fi (and its great for OOP bc its cheaper).

We also really enjoy 50s PTC. The antics are all in good fun, they are not trying to ruin the meal instead they are just making you laugh. On top of that the food is top notch! The pot roast, tuna casserole, pork chops, fried chicken, the list goes on.... :goodvibes

I have heard nothing but good reviews about BD and MM (though we cannot eat there bc my brother is deathly allergic to tree nuts)

As far as H&V, my family hasnt eaten there in a few years but when we used to it was always very good.

The thing my family has a problem finding is a CS, but not because there arent enough most of them just have some sort of pesto or tree nut. We generally stick to Pizza Planet. It is a fun atmosphere (though a little loud bc of the arcade but sitting upstairs or outside helps reduce the noise) and has the standard Disney pizza.

So while I think that that they could definitely devote a bit of time to the addition of some new restaurants. I don't think it is that major of a priority.

LOL! My FIL feels the same way. I don't really care much for 50s PT. I *HATE* the decor. Absolutely hate it! I don't mind being harassed during my meal because I'm used to it...people always harass me. :) But my dd and her BFF really want to go here, so we will. It's the only place that DD's BFF has requested, so I feel like we have to do it.

I agree except Starring Rolls is one of my favorite CS places. I totally agree with PP about 50s...we thought it was overdone and annoying. DH really hated it. I didn't think any of the food was that great...tasted like Stouffers to me (I think it is, right?) The veggies were flavorless- I don't really want someone spoonfeeding them to me

If you eliminate the DDP and the TS "credit" business, the Brown Derby is better than anything at the MK or the AK and is better than a fair # of restaurants at Epcot.
And Mama Melrose is better than anything at the MK---

Whether you are not ready to experience Hollywood Brown Derby, I suggest to order the penne a la vodka at Mama Melrose. There are delicious, IMO.

:thumbsup2What He said.
DHS is a distant second to EPCOT but it is second. We love MM and 50"sPT and like HBD when we are there.Other than a yearly Tony's fix and the occasional CRT we never eat at MK,same with AK and the Y&Y.There's just better food at the resorts or EPCOT

SciFi Diner is cute, but I wish they would add more clips to their loop. By the time the meal is done, I feel like I've watched all the same clips at least three times.

Brown Derby gets my vote for best food inside any park, hands down. Last year, I had the most amazing duck dish there and their desserts are wonderful.

After Brown Derby, the food takes a real dive at HS, although we do enjoy a burger and shake at Sci-Fi on every trip (the kids love the atmosphere there).

Agreed! Such an easy thing to do, too!

Mama Melrose, 50's PTC and SCi-FI are restaurants we've always enjoyed, still haven't given Starring Rolls a try. I'd agree with previous posters DHS food-wise is second only to Epcot, a distant second but second none the less!

I would put it third. Epcot obviously first! Then MK(LTT lunch and Tonys are AMAZING), then DHS, and finally AK. And if you count the MK's resort's restaurants then it makes it that much better (Chef Mickeys, V&A, Citricos, O'hana, etc....:worship:)
