DHS to get 25th celebration plus hat removal!!

Won't ever be the icon because it is a replica of a landmark Disney doesn't own.
The new icon for Disney California Adventure is the Carthay Circle Theatre, a Los Angeles movie theater that Disney didn't own either. It's currently under construction where the awful sun icon used to be.

Architectural works from prior to 1976 are not protected by U.S. copyright law. (Congress changed the law in 1976). Grauman's Chinese Theatre opened in 1927.

Disney owns the Chinese Theater at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Grauman's Chinese Theatre was one of the two icons of Disney-MGM Studios before the "temporary" hat. The other was the Earful Tower.

Thank You Kindly. Oh wow, I totally forgot about that water Tower with the ears. That was, and should become again the landmark. That way the GMR Outside (from here on out i will to refer to it as the GMRCT) can be seen and it doesn't have to be the landmark.

The odd part about the water tower is that its not even located in the park....in fact I'm not sure where it is visible from the park these days.

I would just like to add that the idea that they added the hat because they didn't have the rights to the theater is an urban legend that was never true. The Hat was supposed to be there for one year and one year only.

I don't MIND the hat as an icon. I don't love it either.

I HATE it's location, though. It's ugly, visually distracting, and just kills the whole "feel" of the walk up. I don't walk toward it to see what secrets it holds. I avoid it because it's an eyesore.

As for the MK comparisons...they don't hold water. That juxtaposition was DESIGNED, folks. The castle is SUPPOSED to be out of place. That's the point. You're walking down a corridor from "the real world" straight into a world of fantasy and imagination. The castle is meant to draw you into it. And Main Street USA is meant to be a transition.

Now, you put that hat in the middle of the animation courtyard (you know...stroller parking USA?) and suddenly it fits. Throw a Sorcerer Mickey meet and greet underneath and I'd be a whole lot happier with the whole setup.

Wow....who knew, I guess this is what you learn on the DIS.

We have a set of collector glassware from McDonalds and each of the parks is represented by an icon - Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life, SSE, and Earful Tower.

This is a set of 'Year 2000' glasses which helps reinforce the fact that even when the hat was first built the Earful Tower was still the true icon of the park.

:thumbsup2

What year was the hat put in? I can't remember.

Really? I like the hat! However I do think that they should do something else with it other than pin trading. But what are they gonna use as the DHS logo now??? Probably TOT :sad2: . This is worse than when they removed the Epcot sign off the Epcot ball!

1: DHS (or rather MGM) got off Just fine without the hat. The hat was put in as a 1 year thing and was never taken out. There are several different things to be used as the logo like the water tower with ears, or the GMRCT. They worked just fine before the hat.

2: The epcot sign on SE was ridiculous and completely unnecessary IMO

Also, I'm under 25 and i still do remember a time without the gaudy hat sitting there!

I agree the hat should be moved. I have nothing against it itself (I loves Sorcerer Mickey). But it's right smack in the middle of what should be walkable area. Makes DHS seem even smaller than it is (if that's possible).

It just doesn't belong there.

I read somewhere that there might be plans to move it to the entrance, outside the turnstiles? Any idea if that's what they'll be doing?

It would make sense to me... move it outside so it's still visible, it's a pin shop, so more sales as people head out, more space inside the park, still can be used as the symbol to the park.

So i was right! Cool. Now............ MAKE IT GO AWAY!

See I like the hat just not the placement I would do one of the following!

1. Move it infront of the animation building to make it part of the entrance.
2. Move it pusher the entrance TP DHS
3. Move it to art of animation resort
4. Move it to DTD

I believe if you look at my OP i said the same thing. I don't mind it, i HATE the location. When i said make it go away I didn't necessarily mean take it away, i meant more take it away from where it is.

I don't know id I said it here or not, but isn't the Animation Plaza too cramped for the hat?

I'd say put it out front where they normally put the Christmas tree
