DHS Rumor?

A friend was at DHS last week and was told by a CM that the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular will be closed and the area will be used for a new Star Wars attraction. No closure date or info about the new attraction was given.

Now I take everything with a grain of salt until it is officially announced by Disney and I know there is a lot of "misinformation" coming from CM's. However, I like to follow these rumors because they sometimes end up being true.

Has anyone else heard something similar?

they have been actively casting for the show so it's not likely to go anywhere anytime soon.

Someone needs to move this to rumors board- this is clearly not true. They are redoing Star Tours - that alone is all the proof you need that they are NOT putting in ANOTHER Star Wars ride separate from that...they are NOT closing the Stunt show.

I actually read they are expanding Star Tours as part of the refurbish and the expansion will Close the Stunt show. While it's all rumor and conjecture, I don't think anything is "clear" and none of us know what's going to happen.

I don't understand the logic behind "There's already a Star Wars attraction. That precludes the possibility of any other Star Wars attraction being built".

That would have to be one BIG expansion of Star Tours, to go through the backlot express, and into the Indiana Jones show area :confused3:confused3

Which would be fine with me but I somehow doubt this. It sounds expensive and lately Disney hasn't been inclined to go all out like this plus I would have expected that they would have posted that Indy would close by now.

While I certainly don't know if any of this is true, I'm not sure how you justify saying "Disney hasn't been inclined to go all out" with the Fantasy Land expansion and the new Animation Resort being constructed. That would seem to me to be "go all out".

Not true. However ... where it probably sprung from is a "Indiana Jones / Star Wars Mash-Up" show that is being produced for The Last Flight of Endor event in August. It's a Star Wars event -- private event -- that will give Star Wars fans in town for some other convention / event a chance to ride Star Tours one last time before the rehab. They're doing a special after-hours event that will include the "Mash-Up" show.

But Indy isn't expected to go away for several years, and when it does, it is far more likely that the whatever goes into the theatre will be something Disney-branded. Like Tron or Sorcerer's Apprentice (if the films do well) or maybe even Marvel-themed. It's not likely that Disney would continue to push Star Wars elements when they have so much of their own stuff that could play in that spot.

I feel bad b/c I feel really combative about this, but how are you so sure this isn't true? I'm not sure any of us do. What I do know is true is that WDW can NOT have any "Marvel" attractions as long as US doesn't violate the terms of keeping the Marvel attractions. Agreed in the Marvel merger was that No Disney Theme Park east of the Mississippi River (ie. WDW) can have Marvel themed attractions as long as US actively has Marvel Attractions. I only know this b/c as a Disney Stockholder this was something that was asked to vote on to approve the takeover of Marvel.

Because if Disney decides that they are going to spend all this money on Star Tours -- they are not ALSO going to spend an even bigger pile of money on essentially the SAME product. Notice that Disney does NOT have two attractions featuring the same PRODUCT in the same park. (Nemo is in both Epcot and AK, but that is two separate parks.)

Now, the iteration where they'll close the stunt show to expand Star Tours is even more misguided. Star Tours is closing in September, and will be back open in May. They are clearly NOT building a major expansion as part of this....something like that would be a minimum 2-year closure / construction.\

I would bet my AP this is a FALSE rumor. (I am not saying the OP is lying, I am saying that the CM that told it was either misinformed or spreading unfounded rumors.

Universal only has exclusive rights to the Marvel characters it already uses in its park. Granted, that is quite a few of the most popular characters, but Disney can use other Marvel character if they chose.

There are some folks here who have access to future attractions info and current attraction rehab and replacement schedules. And, while exact info on what is coming or what is changing cannot often be shared, information about what is NOT happening is much less sensitive.

Would it make you feel better if I said, "At this moment in time, that rumor is untrue" as opposed to making it a blanket statement?

What's to prevent them from having a Star Wars Land similar to A Bug's Land and the forthcoming Cars Land at DCA? I realize they are in California but it is a Disney park that contained multiple attraction based on the same intellectual property.

I'm, of course, playing devil's advocate here. I think it's very unlikely that Disney would dedicate and entire section of the park to a property they don't outright own. I mean they aren't Universal.

i hope when the stunt show does reach it's end, that they don't do away with Indy altogether. I would love to see the Indy Jones ride in DL make it's way to one of the WDW parks. It's a great que, great ride and timeless character. It would be ashame to have Indy dissappear altogether from FL.

there actually is speculation of a star wars land, however, as i mentioned above, they're casting for indy. wouldn't make sense if they were planning on closing it any time soon.

there are more than 50,000 CMs at WDW, I can promise not every one of them is taking daily meetings with Iger or Staggs on this.

The Star Tours 2.0/refurb announcement part is true, but there is nothing about it moving to antoher area or expanding that far. The release info said they woudl updated the movie and the simulators, that can all be done in the existing building structure.

just a WAG here, but the only expansion to Star Wars happening would be if they expand the que. maybe the 2.0 version will be amazing and they anticipate the demand for this attraction to increase. let's hope so.

I am not claiming to have any inside knowledge, nor am I claiming that it will or can never happen. I also am not being combative in any way - this is nothing personal against any posters on the boards. I point is that is clearly NOT happening as part of the current Star Tours job. This was officially announced at the D23 convention, and had been rumored for about 2 years before that. In fact, I was in early on the rumors - posting here about footage being shot 3 months ahead of the announcement - and which ended up being true! ("Toot Toot" goes my horn. It's interesting reading the responses to my post now that it ended up being correct.) So, I am all for communication of any mention of rumors at Disney.

But the thing is, "a CM said it" is the LEAST believable of rumors. While I am sure someone within Disney has at one time or another discussed an expanded Star Wars section, and also discussed closing the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, I strongly believe there are no concrete plans in the works based on the normal progression of Disney plans...you would not see this happen for a minimum of 18 months, if not longer - and therefore this is merely conjecture and rumor at the moment, which is why I said it should be moved to the Rumor board. I was not trying to insult the OP by saying this, I am all for posting such things here - but it is nothing more than a rumor, and a long way from coming true.

Ain't that the truth.

I hear my co-workers say daily we are getting the iphone __ (insert version here) for about 3 or 4 years now, still havn't seen it (and we are not AT&T).
