I needed to talk about something besides the horrible disaster that some of my family is living through, or about crazy gas stuff. :guilty: Hope you don't mind!

Some of you will remember the story about my DH the wanna-be art teacher. He got an aide position, hated it and quit...interviewed for a teaching position that is more than 1.5 hours away...didn't get it, decided he wouldn't take it?

Ok, today he interviewed for a building sub position (full-time w/benefits) at a elementary school 10 minutes from our house!!!

I'm hoping everything else was to get us prepared for this job, but this time, I'm really not allowing myself to get too excited. Plus with everyhting else going on around this country, we are thankful for what we do have.

Just wanted to update everyone who was so supportive before--I'll let you know what happens!

I remember reading your other posts about your DH's art teacher interviews - good wishes coming your way, hopefully this is the right job! :)

Is he a "new" teacher? I've read so much on these boards alone on how new teachers have to put their "dues" in before getting a decent teaching position. Good luck to him!

Yep, he's a new teacher. He graduated last year, but hasn't been able to find anything, in the horrible NE teacher market.

Thanks everyone!! I'll let you know!!

Your lucky he didn't need to sign a contract. Otherwise you would be paying to get out of his old job.

The Mid-west also has major teacher cutbacks. I think if you want teaching jobs you have to go south. I heard in Alaska you only have to work 10 years and you can retire with full benefits. Want to move to Alaska?

Dh and discussed moving, but he decided it was more important to be around family (all of our immediate, and most not-so immediate family live within 10 miles of us). We love our area, even if it is economically depressed. i have a great job, and we're financially good.

As for the Aide position--it was a charter school, which did not require contracts, he could get out at any time. One of the big issues was that no one would explain anything to him at all about any part of his job--they had him sitting through conferences. (which is understandable to me). Alright I'll go there--he interviewed for a position as a teacher, which he came to find out was never available. they had filled the position in June and then interviewed in August for the aides, saying it was for the teaching position.

The school has been in trouble before. it just wasn't worth it.

But this new school is good! Yay!

I hope everything turns out. I remember reading your post about your husband, sorry, I forgot it was a Charter School. Our Charter school closed down. It had kids from a 50 mile radius attending.

I hope everything works out for you.

My niece job shared with another teacher last year for 4th grade. She said the other teacher was so childesh. She would put something up on the wall that she did in the afternoon and the other teacher would take it down the next morning. My niece said she treated her like it was only her 4th grade and not hers too.

My niece didn't want to job share and thought she could get a different class-she won new teacher of the year award. She didn't get a class out of 8 elementary schools, but the h.s. hired her to teach alternative Freshman & Sophmore classes. She will be working with 15 students all year. But she has to teach them everything.

Sorry for babblying, just wanted you to know you are not alone. What else are Dis friends for.
