DHS Animation Drawing

Typically they start 30 mins after the park officially opens, running every 30 mins, up to 30 mins prior to park close I think (not extra magic hours).

As far as what character you draw, I believe that is up to the discretion of your instructor. I think though, that they try not to draw the same one two sessions in a row.

they just run continuously and it is by far my favorite part of the park!! :)

the only time I didn't like it was when the room was over-full and we had to sit in the very front and use clipboards instead of the lighted desks. but even still it was fun!!

its also great to hit it during a "character-palooza" while waiting for the next class to start. we saw meeko, genie, mrs poppins & her penguins last year waiting for a class to start :)

Is this class appropriate for kids? My dd will be 9 when we go and loves to draw. I think she would love it!

Definitely! She'll really enjoy it! My daughter has been going since we discovered it at California Adventure about 6 years ago. She will go about 3 or 4 times a trip!

Very appropriate for kids. When we did it twice a couple of years ago, my daughter was 11 and more than half the class were younger than her. Your dd will love it.

last year we met up with friends for the day and they have a 10 year old son... he seemed to like it. i mean, probably as much as a ten year old boy spending the day away from his xbox could enjoy a drawing class... lol

I was in the 3:30 class yesterday (wow, it's so much fun to say that!) and our instructor had us vote between Bolt, Dale and Goofy. Dale won; he was a good one to draw, and mine came out pretty good (but I think I got his nose too small). There was a guy in our group who had done the class a couple of times earlier in the day, and I saw that one of his earlier drawings was of Piglet.

Definitely good for kids. My DD went when she was 4, 5 and 6 yo.

This past January, my DD2 also went (there were plenty of extra seats so the instructor said she could draw, too).

And my DD2 scribbled away and had fun. The instructor even signed both my of DD's drawings.

We were not given a choice of characters but had to guess who it was from her instructions.

Turned out to be Dale and then we went to the Characterpalooza and got Dale to sign our drawings -- way cool!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Dale made a big todo about his drawings ... and of course Chip wasn't too happy with us that he wasn't drawn. Made for a very funny time.:lmao:

Yes, it is great for kids! My kids love it and we usually have to do it at least twice every trip. One year the animator asked if anyone knew what was on the tip of Zero's (nightmare Before Christmas) nose? My then 7 year old raised her hand and answered "a pumpkin". When the class was over he let her come to the front and take pictures at the art desk and take a picture with him. He also gave her his sketch and drew her name on it. We had both her sketch and his sketch framed together along with the pictures we took. She loved it!

We make it a point to go to the drawing class at least a couple of times each trip. I have one DD who is very artistic and another who cannot draw a straight line! We still laugh hysterically when we pull out our three Pluto pictures - my not so great of a drawer DD's picture is sooo funny. We absolutely love it. But you may need to get there early to grab a seat - there's not too many spots available. We usually use thie waiting time to chat, plan the rest of our day or just relax and enjoy the rest.

We went back to back last year and drew TinkerBell then Donald Duck. We won the animator's Donald Duck drawing so that was neat! I have the Tinkerbell drawings framed (separately ) in my office at work and reminds me of our great time, every day!!!

we LOVE this class - warning it's actually addictive! On our past trip we 'won' two of the animators drawings - Mickey Mouse and Tigger!

Love, Love, Love the class! Seriously we probably do it 6 times a trip.

Best time to go IMO is early in the morning - classes are less crowded.

For next time - What is the etiquette for winning the animator's drawing? I totally could have had that; I knew the answer to his question when no one else seemed to (several wrong guesses, and he was giving out hints before a guy finally got it), but I was too shy to speak up. Being a solo adult, I didn't want to feel guilty for depriving some kid of the drawing, or get it and find out I was expected to give it away to a kid/family. (That sounds weird, but I once had a bad Baby Shower experience that still haunts me.) I always would have waited for a couple of other people to speak up first, but when it was obvious no one was coming up with the answer, now I wish I'd put my hand up! (Oh, and the answer was Clarice, so you can guess what the question was.)
