I made ADR's yesterday for our December trip. DH's B-day is on 12-21 and we will be eating at Crystal Palace before going to MVMCP. I mentioned DH's b-day and the CM made a note of it on the Ressie. He also gave me a number to order a cake for him. I think I will do this, but can anyone let me know what the cakes are like AND what will happen at CP because they know his b-day is that day. :teeth:

Well, at other restaurants, they make a funny scene and the whole restaurant sings. We have ordered cakes from the resorts. They weren't slippers or anything, they were the normal ones. It was chocolate with chocolate frosting and green icing. All of that can be changed though.

I had a cake for my BD at Ohana LY. I knew about it and asked that they not sing, just bring the cake. i was asked "are you sure?". Yes, I was sure. I loved having a special cake but just wanted to celebrate with my family not the whole restaurant. It was a beautiful and delicious cake. If he really isn't a "big producation" kind of guy, I would ask that they keep it low key. If he won't mind or likes it (even secretly) don't restrain them :teeth:

1) WDW no longer does special cakes at characters meals.
2) They might have their own cupcake or small cake.
3) But you can't order a special cake any longer.
4) It just got to be such a bother, plus it wasn't fair to other guests.

When did this change and how was it not fair to other guests?

You must give them 48 hours notice. We had white cake with white icing and chocolate mousse between the layers. Had a Mickey and Minnie put on the top. The cake was $20, they have one for $15, and the little Mickey and Minnie were three bucks apiece. The cake was delicious. If we do another birthday down there, I'll want the same cake.

My DH's birthday at the CP was just wonderful. We got a 12" cake (we ordered it when we made our ADR's on the phone and confirmed with the podium when we got there). He got to march in the parade with the characters in the restaurant and he also got a card signed by all the pooh characters. Be sure to pick up the birthday pin at Guest Services. He'll get special treatment in some places as a result.

I know for a fact that this DOESN'T apply to CP! Most restaurants will have 6 inch cakes on hand for you to purchase ($12.99), feeds 4-5 people. CP gives out cupcakes for birthdays if you don't want to purchase a cake at all. Also, the number for the cake hotline is (407) 824-7091. This number is ONLY for cakes that will be served in the MK! They are open M-F, 8-4 and require 48 hours notice. Hope this helps!

We saw a birthday at CP, the Pooh characters came marching out holding signs and got the whole restaurant singing.

If you don't order a cake, they will bring him a cupcake with a candle in it. I think they also bring a birthday card signed by the characters.

Thanks to all of your posts. I will definitely buy the cake. Sounds like a great deal. :cool1: I can hardly wait to see DH's response.

:cool1: Be sure to get him a Happy Birthday badge at City Hall and he will get special treatment everywhere.
