DH was offerred a copy of A Purpose Driven Life Pre Deployment.

DH is getting ready to deploy to Iraq and was offerred a copy of a Purpose Driven Life, from the U.S. Army which he happily accepted. He plans to take it with him to Iraq.

I've heard it's a good book, but don't know much about it to be honest.

I know a few reservists who are trying to do anything not to serve full time, including trying to transfer to units they think won't be deployed. Disgusts me that they take a paycheck every month but don't actually want to serve our country.

I come from a military family, my Dad is a former Marine, my oldest brother served in the Corps as well. 2 of my other brothers were also in the Navy.

Since his unit isn't deployed (he is deployed), he has been transferred to a CSH (Combat Support Hospital) out of New York state, so that set of orders came. We are still waiting for the "real" set of orders. He is going to Falugia. The date hasn't changed. I am just anxious to get them so we can take advantage of the Soldiers and Sailor's Act for our mortgage. We don't have that much time left on our mortgage so we probably won't see a big savings, but even if its $100 its "our" $100.

That is how my DH was, only he was deployed from his unit. I probably already told you that! He only got one set of orders from the acquiring unit though. He also had to request orders to be transfered BACK to his regular unit after he returned. Paperwork! Stole him, then didn't want to let him go!

We did not know about the Soldiers and Sailors act for our mortgage. But we also only had 9 days notice to get everything in order and his "stuff" packed, easy to overlook such things. No military around here, so we were pretty much left to learn/do on our own. Do see if your county has a property tax refund too. Ours does, and I know some other Dis'ers who got theirs back too. Our homeowners association told us not to pay our yearly fee, but we did anyway.

I am sure he will be much needed there. Good luck getting things in order. And I hope he gets back in time for Hawaii!! That will be a good thing to look forward to and to celebrate his return.
