Are there any plans for the monorail to connect Orlando MCO to WDW?
We both remember these rumors previously, but can't remember the final word.

I've heard that rumor, but highly doubt it will happen. The cost would be astronomical.
Disney could monorail every resort, to every park for that kind of money.
I don't think the state could supply funds for a monorail running specifically to WDW.

But, it would be awesome if it ever happened! :smokin:

There are light rail plans for MCO, not monorail. Lots of infighting in the Orlando area over what the light rail route would be... Disney wants it to go essentially straight from the airport to the TTC! Folks at Sea World and Universal have different ideas.

Not to go OT but I was alway curious why they haven't yet put in monorails connecting all the resorts to the parks. I mean I understand the cost would be high, but it would have to level out somewhere with the price of gas going up and the amount that all those buses use.

Here's what became of the airport plan (and, for that matter, many of the other grand plans for the monorail):

I'm certainly no expert in monorail csots, but the good folks over on the Rumor & News Board were tossing out numbers like one BILLION dollars per mile.... plus maintenance.

If that is indeed true, we may never see more monorails. :(

yes the monrail is not going to happen.

but i still hopping for light rail (not to the airport) but connecting at least WDW theme parks to get other....

first they will do the theme parks - then work on the resorts.

of course right now - because the Epcot resorts can walk to both parks - it can cause problems with the CBR - it is probably just as close to Epcot and closer to the studios - but it can't walk to either - because it is a moderate resort..... same with the Pop.

There are two, not counting cost, major problems with extending the monorail. First is that the mono rail at Disney is not a switched system. (yes, they do have switches to change tracks but now when passengers are on them and they can't run it like a normal switched railroad.) This creates a problem in that each run is essentially one big loop. you would need to have quite a few ticket and transportation center type places just to accomodate the switching. Lots of problems there.

The other issues is that rail systems in general do not lend themselves well to on demand capacity changes. That is if suddenly you need more capacity at a certain park or resort you can't easily adjust capacity during the day. With busses it is very easy to change capacity on the fly and in smaller increments that with a rail system.

I think it would be great if the monorail were to extend to all resorts / parks but given the much larger and sprawling nature of WDW now it would be impracticle for reasons beyond just the construction cost.
