Dh unemployment help?

If they are asking one shift during one week, I really don't think that unemployment is going to take that as justification for making the employer keep paying your DH unemployment for not working. I would look into getting somebody who can cover your daycare kids.

Is the shift change going to be long term, or just one week? Could you hire an assistant to work during the time DH normally would have been watching the kids? I know it's an extra expense, but it would be less of a burden than losing his job and his unemployment both.

That is what I said last night. Hire an assistant to fill in those few hours.

also have you checked the RN program about doing your rotations only on the weekend? Because I have not heard of any RN program that does that. LPN yes, but not RN, but maybe they do now I know they didn't used to.

I also wonder if a day care job is paying more than his full time job, have you figured out how much his unemployment will be? It may not be as much as you think it will be.

Does your DH have any skills or work experience outside of printing? because with the job market places are really asking for and getting a lot in new hires. They are getting hires with many levels of experience for 1/2 of what they used to pay and hiring them at very low levels considering their skills.

UPDATE!

So my DH went to the president of the company yesterday, and he restored my husband's vacation, personal, holiday pay and etc.! :goodvibes

As far as the schedule goes we are dealing. DH has been on 1st shift this week hopefully going to 3rd next week.

I have bribed DS 18 to watch kiddos so I can leave for class. He has been cleared by the state since July I was just really nervous about it. But so far so good! :cool1:

I would honestly call your Labor board, or whatever it is, because I don't see how they can consider him a new hire either.

None of these things OP wants her DH to get back are "state mandated" benefits. Companies don't have to give paid vacation etc..... I don't think calling Labor is going to help.

If it's a union job you MIGHT be able to call the Union rep, but otherwise... this is not the goverment's issue.

I am glad OP's DH got his benefits, but... There seems to be some sense of "entitlement" on here that's not really found in law.

That's GREAT news!!! Congrats to you guys!! Sounds like it's all working out for the best. :)

Here's from an employers view: I would fight the unemployment claim all the way to state appeals. If a job was offered and he refused, especially at the same rate of pay, unemployment compensation would be denied. At least in NJ, unemployment claims greatly affect what we owe to the state in repayment.

We own a printing business and our slump started 2 years ago and business is not coming back. All state and local governments have gone to internet newsletters, e-mail info, etc, everyone is cutting non essential printing. The printing world as we knew it from 32 years ago is so different. If his career change/other job does not pan out, he may never get another job in printing.

As far as benefits go, that's iffy. But he never would have been laid off if the company was doing well enough and had enough business. Is it a large or small business?

Me too....I am an HR manager. I would fight that and probably win. Work was available and offered, he refused. I do think that he should talk to HR himself, not use his direct supervisor for information.
