He gives in and says he wants to go back at the holidays next year. I give him the dates, email people regarding rentals to get one secured. He is complaining that he does not want to leave the 23rd. He thinks it will ruin the holiday, I say bring it on! What do you all think? My plan is to arrive Dec. 23rd 2005 and leave January 4th 2006. He wants to leave December 25th-did that last year, blech, and come back January 7th. That gives us one more day there but traveling on Christmas stunk! The anticipation and hurry up and waiting. I need some opinions here from a few thousand of my closest friends I can trust :teeth: ! Fellow DISers, what do you think? Kids will be ages ugh almost 17, 15, almost 13, 10, and 8. Suggestions from people who have flown in early and rented a home? Thanks and pixie dust to all!:wizard:

We've always gone a couple of days after Christmas, which gets very stressful in terms of cleaning up the holiday mess and getting ready. This year we are going 12/18 for two weeks and I am getting more grief than I expected from my teenagers. They are very concerned about the logistics of when and how they'll get their gifts (which I admit I haven't totally decided yet).

My thinking is to give them the majority of their gifts at home before we go, then let Santa come with some small things. I bought a 4' artifical tree and will be taking some decorations. I also bought a couple of lighted decorations for the balcony of our unit. My DH REALLY rolled his eyes on that one, but I just want it to feel like the holidays. I've never been to the resort where we're staying (Wyndham Palms) so I don't know how much, if at all, they will be decorated up.

The only other issue that's up in the air is our traditional Christmas brunch. It started with my parents when I was little and we have continued it with our own family. We have fried chicken (marinated overnight in buttermilk) and sawmill gravy with biscuits. My husband doesn't want to lug the electric skilled along to do the chicken, so we may have to reschedule that also.

I hope I didn't make a mistake with these plans. We have never ever ever been away from home on the actual holiday. My parents are both dead and my husband doesn't mind seeing his on another day, so we'll see how it goes.

Ugh, I am just so not sure what to do. I am thinking of calling up who we are going to rent from and asking if we can change the dates to Christmas Day. Maybe it won't be that bad, sigh. I really thought going before hand would be easier but I get panicked because I am not sure if younger 2 will still believe in the big guy or not and I don't want to ruin it for them! What to do what to do.....

I am actually due to have our second Child around Christmas time. So knowing that my first one was early and born on a hoilday. Veterans day. Who knows. This one may arrive on Christmas. And if that happens Our DS 2 (will be 3 by Christmas)knows that Santa will stop at our house and drop off his one 'Santa" present and the rest of the presents will be at the hospital with Mommy and the new baby. The stockings and mommy and daddy presents..

I have spent Christmas in a few places away from home and Santa came and filled our stockings at our destination and left our 'cool' Santa present at home. So we didn't have to worry about bringing it home. (one year my bike was my gift and I had a picture of it in my stocking.. When I got home 3 weeks later it was sitting there waiting for me) We just exchanged family gifts on vacation.

I say go and spend Christmas at WDW and just be creative about your gifts and have someone leave the Santa stuff at your home, but also have Snata fill the stockings, if that is what your family does.

I am not one to travel on the 24th or 25th as there have been too many times when we lost luggage and so forth..

HTH..
