We went to WDW over Thanksgiving for all of our very first time. I am sooooo hooked! I knew I was a Disney nut to start with, but oh boy I can't wait to go back on what we thought would be a once maybe twice in a lifetime trip! My youngest who loves Sleeping Beauty and I would like to give DL a try to see Sleeping Beauty's castle. My friend and I thought we'd take our girls on a girls trip to DL over Spring Break. I knew it would be hard to convince DH, so to prepare I crunched and crunched numbers and wanted all my answers ready when I proposed the idea. Well, before I could even get the numbers out...shot down!:charac2: I know we really can't afford it. But its not like we'd declare bankruptcy over it either, LOL! ANd they are only this age for such a very short while. DDs are 5 1/2 and 9. My 9 yo was so upset she didn't get to see Peter Pan at WDW. Yes, she really thinks he is real and waits every night, LOL! How much longer can I really expect that to last? To my surprise he mentioned maybe we could go again next Thanksgiving to WDW. I wanted to say, "But I wanna see SLeeping Beauty's castle!" LOL! (I did refrain, LOL) But I know how much they can grow up in a year. Will my 9 YO believe in the magic when she's 10. (now mind you , she is a smart but very naive for her age...but still, that's pushing it).

I had also vowed never to return with DH again as he was a funsucker. LOL! He just doesn't get the Disney Magic. He's into Epcot and Space rides etc. I'm into characters and castles, LOL! princess: The man griped me out for running first thing to the hotel gift shop to buy mouse ears! Like we weren't gonna buy mouse ears!!!! I tell you, if he weren't paying for it...... :rolleyes2

keep trying, maybe he'll relent!

Yes - it is amazing how persistence pays off! Try this.... DL then would actually be cheaper than going to WDW at Thanksgiving (it actually would be), and I believe there is that kids stay and fly free promo going on with one of the airlines.... United? Can't remember......
As far as the magic - well - who knows! My DS's are 8 and 9 ( were 7 and 8 when we were there last) and they were quite caught up still, and I don't see an end to it soon. I'm sure they know the characters aren't real anymore - but none of us will admit to it - and they still get autographs and get ecxcited about seeing all of them!

You might try cutting corners and saving some money in the next month, it might persuade him that you can afford it.....

Well As I'm the Disney nut in this family I would shoot you down as well how dare you try to not include him :rotfl2:

Dl is great as well but as far as the magic my DD12 still gets extremly excited anytime I mention anything Disney .I think she started to cry when I told her we were buying DVC and PAP's .
I've done DL and WDW without them and I feel bad right up until I hit the front gate :teeth: .
Don't pester but don't stop planning and running #'s as well you never know :grouphug:

Be prepared, Sleeping Beauty's Castle is very small after going to WDW. My now 7 year old DD wanted to know who shrunk the castle the first time she viewed it in person. While we have many of Walt's personal touches here, WDW feels like a vacation destination. Due to DL being surrounded by chain hotels and such, there is not the resort feel that we enjoy at WDW. There is something about that monorail or ferry boat ride approaching the MK that can't be duplicated in Anaheim. If it were me , I would take the WDW trip and enjoy.

Just start saving $$$!!

That is what I did. I put away as much as I could each month into a seperate account. When we reached almost as much as we needed, I started spending lots of time on the DIS, mentioning it lots, getting the kids excited, watching for cheap flights, mentioning it more, telling him how much fun it would be, kept saving, kept mentioning it. I finally got the OK from him, and went and booked it right away! We left 5 weeks later.

Ah, such fun.... :goodvibes

I am going to DL this Christmas 12-19-01 till 12-27-06 ans I founf planning this tripe and getting about the same, concierge, Disneyland Californian hotel, and the food plan it comes out to the same as i spent for DW for 5 days, go figure....either way I am so excited about going to CA, tell your hubby life is to short, enjoy the ride while you are here :cheer2:

Just start saving the money and if he doesn't agree that a trip to DL is ok....then wait for him to take you back to WDW. WDW isn't a bad 2nd choice to DL.

Thanks you guys made me feel better. He threw me off with the Thanksgiving proposal. He had said we would only go to Disney once, maybe twice when they were older. I kind of looked forward to the idea of having a girls only trip. DH tends to put a wet blanket on things when he refuses to buy autograph books LOL! I'm glad to hear feedback that many kids choose to get caught up in the magic. Maybe if I start now I can get the money saved up and do it next year. Or if I'm really good my bday in July. At this rate, maybe we should look into the DVC, LOL! ALthough DH said he didn't think it was that great of a deal since the lodging isn't where the real expense lies. He's so serious! LOL

My DH won't spring for autograph books either - but I make ours at home before the trip - and they're personalized! There are a lot of great ways to do all the Disney magic and save a lot of $$$$$. Check out the budget boards to get more ideas!

There are a lot of "funsuckers" and "wet blankets" in the world. I know, because I'm married to one, too! My hubby has gone to WDW/DL with the family several times, and I've also taken just the kids. But my FAVORITE way to visit a Disney theme park is SOLO!!!! I will stop short of advising YOU to do what you want, no matter what. But if it were me...I'd do what I want...no matter what! (Edited to add...my last comment refers to going on the Disneyland trip with your kids...not to family life in general!)

My daughter is 16 and still gets very caught up in the Disney magic. :earsgirl: She would rather go to DL or WDW than anywhere else. We went to DL (our favourite...perhaps because it is closer) this past November with 5 other familes. My daughter was the youngest of the kids and the oldest had her 20th birthday while we were there. She still went to the park wearing a tiara, carrying a wand and had on a sticker we got in Main Street that said it was her birthday. My meaning is...it is never too late for your kids to enjoy the magic!!! :grouphug: That being said, keep on trying!
