CRAP!! the long and short of it, DH is a magistrate, the head of the courthouse is retiring, he wanted the job, someone below DH who is from a politcal family just got appointed today the temp. job until the govenor decides who will be the true appointment.. DH is very upset, put in 20 years, went to law school at night, but we have never been into politics, he had the support of all the police depts., etc I guess just not the politicians, anyhow now he is really depressed. I am trying to hide it from DS and cheer dh up.. but all this sucks and we are suppossed to leave on friday (MY BDAY.. oh happy bday) someone give me some advice to help snap him out of it!!

Ann, take a couple of deep breaths...start your packing...everything will be better once you get in the nice warm sun.

Things will work out just fine!

Sending you hugs & pixie dust!:wave2:

Hi Ann,
If your DH has the support of all the right people, he knows he has done a good job... and that is what counts. And of course your health and time with your family to enjoy it. The rest is transient and not worth a whole lot. Have a great time on the cruise, and enjoy your birthday, which is the same as mine...I'll be 42 to your 40.

That is too bad! Maybe the other guy won't work out.

Hopefully once you get on board and have some fruity drinks, you can both relax and remember that there are more important things than work, even though it doesn't seem like it right now.

Have a happy birthday & a fantastic vacation! :)

I can understand your dh being upset but remember the key words here are "temporary job until the governor decides." Go on your cruise and have a great time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your dh. :)

Two Things:

(1) I Do believe everything happens for a reason.

(2)
Let him see you packing some Victroria's Secrets and he'll cheer right up!
as a man, I Concur.

Tell him: "Objection overruled, Counselor"

Pixie dust for you.

I can only imagine how depressed this could make him - but point out to him that it is only the TEMPORARY assignment, by no means does that guarantee the PERMANENT position will go to the other guy. Convince him he needs to get away from it all and relax, and tackle it fresh when he gets home from vacation.

I teach college-level Judicial Process classes, and unfortunately the judicial appointment process is virtually always governed by who-you-know and how well you supported politicians at key times in their careers. One of the long-standing jokes about federal judgeships is that to earn one, you need to have graduated from a top law school and had the foresight to choose a future U.S. Senator as your roommate. On a more serious note, it is not at all funny if you are the one not selected...

This is a bit sexist, but I think another way to appeal to a man is to reinforce that he does a terrific job providing for the family, and that what really matters is that he is a terrific husband and father. Emphasize that you would love him no matter what he ended up doing in his career, and then reinforce that he HAS been extraordinarily successful. Look at all of the people and families who would do anything for the position that he is currently in. Tell him how proud you are of him in his work, but simultaneously that what is really important to you is how he loves you and your kids.

Don't forget to keep things in perspective. This year alone, I've seen three of my wife's friends (all in our age group--upper 30s) that have found out that their husbands have cancer.

Go on the cruise, and have a Merry Christmas!

Greg

temporary 'cause he knew the he would be on a Family Vacation in the very near future and did not want him to worry about his new position!

Happy Birthday and Happy Sailing!

Sounds like hubby still has a job and a good one to afford this cruise. Some of my friends are trying to figure out how they are going to pay their house note and get their kids Christmas presents while I am trying to figure out what to wear on the cruise
Tell him to be thankfull for what he has.
I know I am!!!:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Try to point out the fact that the reason you go on a cruise is to get away from the real world for a while.

Once you get on board, you generally lose contact with the outside world (unless you pay for online access while on board, watch lots of CNN on the TV in your cabin, or you are so darn important that someone is willing to spend about $7 per minute to call you on the phone).

If you ask me, the timing of your cruise is perfect! DH is feeling down because of a situation on the job (been there). Among other things, situations like this make you wish you could leave your job and go do something else, leaving all this CRAP behind you. Well this trip will allow you to do just that for a period of time. From the time you step on the ship til the ship docs back at Port Canaveral, the "office" will no longer exist.

Ann, I'm sorry that DH is so disappointed, but like Jim said, everything happens for a reason. Let him feel his feelings. He'll come out of it in his own time. Come Friday, he'll be happy just to see you so happy, after all you've been through this year.

Hang in there-sending pixie dust your way.

Ursula

Ann,
I am sending some pixie dust your way! Hopefully once your away from home your husband will be able to put work behind him and just enjoy this special time with you and Mike!!!
Just think....only one week and you will be swimming with the dolphins!!

::yes::

Sending more PD your way. This may sound simple, but come Friday just get on that plane and enjoy your week on the Magic. Leave those problems at home for the week, that's what we did in August and we had a MAGICal cruise!!!

ann- things like this happen all the time and in every industry.
your husband is upset, but a steak at dan marino's and some
coupling excitement will bring him out of the funk that he is in.
just the mere site of the ship sitting there in port will bring chills to your body. were so excited, my dw,dd,ds cant wait, there driving me crazy. were all so excited, so i know that deep down your dh, is excited too. cant wait to meet all of you.

Ann:

The cream always rises to the top!!!!

I'm a big believer in kharma....so, while he may think that a door has closed, I'm sure it is not the case....(when one door closes, another opens)....

I am SO glad that we are leaving Friday. He just feels like such a looser right now, he is really embarressed, I think everyone assumed it would go to him and for this other person to get it really blindsided him. He feels like a fool.
I know it sounds like a cry baby "oh poor me I didn't get the promotion" but it was such a slap in the face, he feels like all his years of hard work were for nothing. I think his pride is hurt the most. People kept coming up to him yesterday in disbelief, he said it was nice that he had so many supporters (- too bad they were not politicians) but left him feeling very inadequate.
We have had two medical scares this year and I reminded him of that and told him that this in comparision is really not a big deal. I think the trip will do him a lot of good, right now I am sick to my stomach for him as he left for the courthouse this morning.
Thank goodness we are leaving Friday!
The victoria's secret thing made me laugh... of course Victoria's REAL secret is Ann is too fat for a thong ;)
