Dh got my package today. I had sent it last Tuesday (Not Thursday). That really was fast. I sent it priority mail, and the post office said it was going to New York first. He seemed to really enjoy it. I bet it was such a diversion from his normal day. Here is today's e-mail:
I also got a call from the wife of his boss. We had been friends years ago the first time the unit went to Kuwait back in 95. She is going to give my phone number to some of the other wives who have husbands that are deployed. She is part of the family readiness group in his Unit.

today, i dont know if its the cold or what. it could be
the fact that we havent had a day off in about two
weeks and working 12 hours everyday. i think im just
worn out i need a vacation. im glad ryan is eating the
lasagna. what hasnt he been eating good lately. did you
take taryn to wal-mart? i know that once she gets some

I'm surprised that his packaged arrived within a week. That gives me hope that my two packages will arrive soon.

I know that you cherish those emails.

Sorry it was last Tuesday that I mailed it not Thursday! I was sick and mailed it that day.

Melanie

I am so glad you post the e-mails.

It is taking my packaged about 2 weeks even going by Priority :(

That's the thing about mailing to an APO, even though it may go by Priority Mail, when it gets to NY it has to wait on the military to pick it up. Sometimes that can be good OR bad.:)
Glad to hear you husband's company picks up quickly, Melanie.
I know he appreciated the package.:)

Melanie, do you think your dh got his package so soon because of where he is stationed? I'm thinking that is probably the first stop for packages that are headed to the camps so maybe his will always be faster? Just a guess though, I just think it's great that he got it so quickly, whatever the reason! :)

DH and I have been going through his Gulf War momentos and looked at the letter's he sent me last night. We laughed and cried. There were several dozen letters from him to me and about 100 from me to him :p ! Some of them say he got no mail for 2 weeks and then got like 5 letters at once. Strange system it seems! I started numbering the letters, so he would know if any were missing and the order of them(e-mail was a new scarce thing back then!). I think their were a few he never got. Some of his are smudged with dirt, makes them all the more precious. Try to save anything he sends you and he should do the same. You probably are already doing this! DH has things such as candy wrappers in arabic from Saudi and money, and then when he went into Iraq lots of arabic materials such as the flyers that show how to surrender, ID cards etc. He has nice things from when they got into Kuwait(even a homemade Kuwaiti flag). Even has the little computer printout that says I am in the hospital in labor. He has a scrapbook with the photos he took and paper items and a box full of things. One day you can look back on all this and share it with your children. Print out the e-mails he sends too. Going through these things now is a good diversion for you too! Hang in there:D !

That was really FAST!! Nothing like "stuff" from home to make you feel warm all over!! Thank you Melanie for letting us feel like we are a part of your life, I love how you share with us.

You are probably right about the mail being sent to his base anyway. I would imagine the transport planes the mail comes over on probably land righ there on the runway he works on. This is probably why it was so fast.

I will have to tell Dh to save the letters we send. I would imagine he keeps them and reads them over and over like I do his e-mails. I am going to have the kids start a scrap book this weekend. That will be fun. I also told him to save the USA today's that I sent. I sent some from the first days of the War. They will be neat to read years down the road.

From the first time that dh went to Kuwait in 1995 he has a coke bottle and coke can in Arabic, he has lots of photo's of all over Kuwait. He had a Kuwait guide them took them around. I also have Iraq money that he brought back. When he was there in November of 2001 he also got a Kuwait Flag and an American Flag that was flown over Afghanistan during Enduring Freedom. He also got plaques thanking him for serving in Enduring Freedom. They are neat to look back upon.

I can't wait till tonight to show this e-mail to my girl scouts. They will be tickled that he enjoyed the letters from them so much.

Thanks,
Melanie
