DH just lost a very dear friend -- his 15 yr old Honda Civic, to be precise. After some initial denial, then mourning, he managed to finally get decisive enough (thanks to those US automotive incentives offered now!) to learn to love again -- and bought a new Ford Escape Ltd.

I, of course, in my own Disneyphilic way, took one look at it and said,

"Oooooo --- Look! es-CAH-pey !"

He, of course, just blinked. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm801YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_3.gif' alt='Very Confused' border=0></a>

So we drove it home, and with a grin on my face, I asked him, "So... what do you think of your new es-CAH-pey ? "

His response -- "Ummm, I think I'd like to know why you keep calling it that."

<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm801YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_2v.gif' alt='Hmm' border=0></a>

I turned to our kids, who while comprised of 50% his non-Disney knowledgable genes, somewhere hold a decidedly equal amount of my mouse-shaped genes as well.

Pointing at the shiny chrome lettering on the back end of the vehicle, I posed my query:

"Hey kids -- what do you think of when you look at dad's new car ?"

(Ok, I confess, I didn't get the initial response I hoped for -- I'll have to dig deeper to get those Disney genes to the top, confound it!)

"C'mon, guys, think about it... ess- CAH - peyyyy !

Smiles spread across their faces (success!) as my progeny repeated the mantra slowly at first, then with feeling,

"Oooooohhhh! We see it, we get it! It's an esss CAHHHHH peyyyyy! Yeah! ess - CAHH - peyyy! "

:earboy2: :earboy2: :earsgirl:

DH still blinked. :confused3

DS 10 finally had to explain it to him.

Poor guy -- the kids at least have the Disney "half-genes"... he comes by his knowledge through marriage only.

I have to admit that it's losing something in translation! :confused3

But if you're happy, so am I!

I don't get it either. :confused3 :guilty:

Best wishes -

Guess I need more coffee. I don't get it either... essss Cahhh pey....
However, I have that phrase stuck in my head now. I"ll have to work on it. Going for a run. Maybe that will "jog" my brain... :teacher:

:flower: :flower: Very funny post. Dory would be proud. :flower: :flower:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That's great-I love that movie-Dory's got so many great lines. Except I can't belive it took my Disney-challenged DH about 6 times seeing it before he got Dory's "It runs in my family-at least, I think it does". So he'd probably be clueless at "Ess-CAH-peeyyy" too.

Maybe THIS would jog some memories...

[From the script of Disney/Pixar's FINDING NEMO.... [/i]

Scene: Dory has just been hit with the mask and a small curl of blood rises from her nose, which Bruce the Shark has now detected....

BRUCE: Dory, are you oka--(smells the blood) Ooooohh. Oohh, that's good.

ANCHOR/CHUM: Intervention!

BRUCE: Just a bite!

ANCHOR: Hold it together, mate!

CHUM: Remember, Bruce, fish are friends, not food!

BRUCE: FOOD!

MARLIN: Dory, look out!

BRUCE: I'm havin' fish tonight!

CHUM: Remember the steps, mate!

BRUCE: Just one bite!

BRUCE: G'day!

MARLIN/DORY: Aaaaaaaah!

BRUCE: Arrrr!

MARLIN: There's no way out! There's got to be a way to escape!

(Bruce begins pounding, trying to break into their hiding place)

DORY: Who is it?

MARLIN: Dory, help me find a way out!

DORY: (to Bruce through the wall/door) Sorry, you'll have to come back later. We're trying to escape!

MARLIN: There's GOTTA be a way out!

DORY: Look, here's something! (reading a sign) "esss-CAH'-pey !" I wonder what that means... It's funny, it's spelled just like the word "ESCAPE".

MARLIN: LET'S GO!

(Ringin' any bells now?) <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm801YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_5_34.gif' alt='Shark 2' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm801YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_12_10.gif' alt='Blue Tang' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm801YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_12_9.gif' alt='Clown Fish' border=0></a>

I should point out that my kids are pros at a game we play in the car or at dinner, called "Name that Line". I give a single line from a Disney movie, and they name (a) the movie and (b) who said it.

If you want to build your script retention skills, you need to drive long distances and listen to movies -- not WATCH movies, I mean LISTEN only. It is AMAZING... I have enjoyed lines and subtle bits of script I never even noticed before, because I was so keyed into the visual action! With 3 kids and a VCR in the car and no family member less than a 7 hr drive away -- we
listen to LOTS of movies!

Just call us the Cliff Clavins of Disney script trivia....

I feel so much better now! Thank you. We saw Finding Nemo once, when it first came out, but still, it's a scene worth remembering!

Ever visit IMDB ? Awesome website with memorable quotes from movies.
Like Jack Sparrow's memorable quotes-which is just about all of his lines!

My husband and I love movies and we are always quoting lines (not just Disney). So much fun. We will have to try the listening to movie on long drives. POC would be fun I'll bet.

Okay, this is too weird, but I sat down at the computer tonight, while my family was watching a movie in the other room. I was half-listening to the movie as I was catching up on email, etc, when I read your post.

The movie they are watching?

POC! pirate:

In the words of Cap'n Jack himself... "Funny ol' world, innit?"

Watching Nemo right now after we all did our own rendition of ESCAPE at dinner. Enjoy the new car!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

ROTFLMAO!

Thats awesome! My DD2 would have gotten it right away! (Nemo's her fave!) And you're a much funnier woman than me-I never would have thought to do that. But it was funny!
