Ok I am new to the forums and have never been a Disney geek, but have always been impressed with how they do things! We are going to be doing our first cruise in January and know that Disney does these sort of things right. So here I am in the board, educating myself in all things Disney cruise. Will SOMEone point me to a acronym dictionary so that I can figure out what all these Disney abbreviations mean???

Well, here's an old thead: https://www.disboards.com/threads/acronymns.762618/

But:
DH = (dear, dumb, darling, ditzy) Husband
followed by DW, DS, DD, DMIL (Dear Wife; Dear Son; Dear Daughter; Dear Mother-In-Law, etc)
DL = usually Disneyland
CC = Castaway Cay (or credit card)

Sometimes you have to just read the sentence to figure it out.

Welcome to the Disboards! The "D" could also stand for "Disney"! PIL stands for the paid in full date on your reservation.

Welcome to the DIS!

Bear in mind that you are under no obligation to use any of the acronyms (I'm not a fan of the Dx ones myself) - it's just a way of shorthand communication.

RCCL/RCI - Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines/Royal Caribbean International
NCL - Norwegian Cruise Lines
DCL - Disney Cruise Lines

To add more confusion:
CC can also stand for Cruise Critic, another popular cruise website.

Some general ones:
OP - Original Poster
PP - Previous Poster
YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary
IMO - In My Opinion
LOL - While you cannot see me, I am enjoying a hearty chuckle with regards to your comment

CM = Crew Member
I thought CM still meant Cast Member? I suppose it's interchangable on DCL

PAT = Port Arrival Time: when your booking window opens you can go online and pick the time you want to arrive at the port. When you arrive and check in you will be given a boarding number.

TA can be travel agent, or transatlantic cruise. That's definitely an example of where you have to read the sentence for either to make sense.

And in the same vein, PC could be both Port Canaveral or Panama Canal.

MDR - Main Dining Room (there are 3 on each ship). Some MDR names are repeated on different ships. Below are the abbreviations

EG - Enchanted Garden - on Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream
AP - Animator's Palate - on Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy
TP - Tiana's Place - on Disney Wonder
RP - Royal Palace - on Disney Dream
RC - Royal Court - on Disney Fantasy
RRT - Rapunzel's Royal Table - on Disney Magic
L - Lumiere's - on Disney Magic
T - Triton's - on Disney Wonder

KTTW - means Key To The World card (your shipboard ID card with charging and room key capabilities)

CD - cruise director

WDW - Walt Disney World

MJ (my name)

DH = (dear, dumb, darling, ditzy) Husband
followed by DW, DS, DD, DMIL (Dear Wife; Dear Son; Dear Daughter; Dear Mother-In-Law, etc)

I always preferred to think of is as
DH = Disney Husband
DW = Disney Wife
DS = Disney Son
etc...

It avoids me filling in any other 'D' words which could be dangerous for my health. :crutches:

FWIW, I can’t wait to book my next DCL Cruise with a TA. Hopefully, it will be a EC itinerary out of PC. I’ll ask for a GTY to see if I can save some $$$, because my DH is already upset that we forgot to do OBB and won’t get an OBC. But that’s okay. Looking for an early PAT after PIF because we’re finally Silver CC members. I doubt that we’ll get a cabana, but as long as we get our usual 08A and visit CC, I’ll be happy. Also looking forward to SWDAS, because my DH loves those movies. We have costumes for that all ready to go. I also hope that my table rotation on my KTTW will be REAAREA, because I just adore AP as a MDR. I hope they have the same CMs and CD that we had on our last cruise. They were great! BTW, should we participate in FE or the DIS Meet? How about visiting WDW? Would before or after be better? Because I’d really like to check it the new rides at HS. Well, TTFN!

:rolleyes1 :jester:

One of my favorite movie lines: "Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT? 'Cause if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA, and then we'd all be put on KP "
