DH did laundry last night

DH had a few items he needed laundered at the last minute for a business trip. So he dumped all of the clothes from the dryer on the sofa, without even fluffing them so I could fold them. He dried the clothes that I'd had in the washer, but then dumped them on the sofa also, so I had no choice but to fold them immediately. Okay, I was mildly miffed at being so inconvenienced by DH's immediate need for a specific pair of pants.

But then DH wakes me up this morning and says "Umm... Don't kill me, okay?" To which I responded, "What did you do?" Well, it turns out that DH decided to wash everyone's tennis shoes in the washer/dryer after he finished his other load last night. And he didn't changethe dryer heat settings first and dried everything on "High". Our insoles are half the length of our shoes!

And since the kids only have one pair of tennis shoes each, I have to take them down to the mall today (with DS sick with a cold) and pay full price for tennis shoes for each of them and myself. Wouldn't be so bad if DS wasn't sick or if MIL wasn't sick (and I could leave the kids with her). To add to my misery, both kids have wide feet and I have a difficult time finding tennis shoes that fit when I have lots of time to shop.

So, for those keeping track of things to not let DH do -- don't let DH use the washer/dryer.

I feel your pain. My dryer is a "no DH zone" in my house.

When my mom went to Vegas, she bought me a gorgeous sweatshirt that I LOVED. DH decided to "help" me with the laundry one day and dried it in the dryer on HIGH (I normally dry it on a line). I wanted to cry when I pulled it out. It shrunk so much that it no longer fits.

My husband would do the same thing with dumping everything on the couch for me to fold (and routinely does cause he's got 1 pair of scrubs that he prefers to wear so he washes them everyday and then throws whatever is in the dryer on the bed or couch). He's never washed our shoes before, but has washed things of mine that are dry clean only so I know what you mean. I'd so much rather him not 'help' with the laundry!

When I was getting ready for my wedding, my best friend came into town to spend a week with me beforehand (she was also my maid of honor). She wanted to help me, so volunteered to do my laundry. I had a bunch of new clothes for the honeymoon that were 100% cotton, and I didn't want them to go in the dryer. She said, "I'm a grownup now, I think I know how to do laundry. Just leave everything to me and don't worry about a thing." Of course, she put all my honeymoon clothes in the dryer, they all shrunk, and I had to wear them too tight, too short, and gapping on my honeymoon (couldn't afford any new clothes, and no time to shop even if I could). I still love my best friend, but I've been married for 21 years now, and it still bugs me to think about that!

I love it when men try to "help" and just make more work for us! Hey, we don't mess around with their tools in the garage, they should leave our household appliances alone. Unless they are broken and DH needs to fix them, that is! ;)

If my DH did this, he'd be hearing about it! I am not the only person in the house capable of folding! I would be :furious:

Luckily, my DH is VERY capable at laundry. :)

What?! A guy that doesn't know how to do laundry? :lmao: Sorry, had to say that. I can't believe guys don't know how to do laundry. What happened to when they lived in college? Or after they got out of college? I must apologize for the male species. I never let my wife do my laundry...I do all my own. So here's at least one guy that knows how to do laundry.

Oh he does, but he doesn't care. The rule is that if I don't take it out of the dryer, I do not fold it. But he doesn't care and will wear his clothes from the pile of wrinkly items on the floor! Of course I still want to fold mine and our daughter's so I do them anyway, and since he doesn't care about wearing stuff out of the heap of clothing, whatever I say doesn't bother him!

My DH used to wait until he had absolutely no clean clothes left, then he would bag all of his dirty ones up and take them to the laundromat. You would think that once he was there that he would just wash them himself, but no...... he would pay 0.75 cents for every pound of laundry and have the laundromat wash them for him!! To say the least he is very well aware that he is NEVER to touch my washer and dryer.

My Dh is wonderful at doing laundry and usually pulls things out that he isn't sure if we should dry or not. he pulls all sweaters (most of the time) but occasionally forgets. My Disneyworld sweatshirt from October was in the wash and I caught him just as he started the dryer with it in it. i was like you did not! But he pulled it out so no dryer for that! I'm glad I was home when he did it. Thge last time he dried my DS's sweater, the entire neck came off! It is very weird! I get to return it to the store for a new sweater.

Yup, laundry is definitely my chore at home. Luckily, DH does the bathroom cleaning!

I could never pay someone to do my laundry for me...the thought of, wait, I'm not going there. I just never do it.

I'm with you...it'd be like watching that money circle down the drain pipe!

On the rare occasions DH does laundry, he seems to only wash his OWN clothes. No one else's make it into the mix. And heaven forbid he put in a load of towels!!!

These days he's pretty much relegated to carrying the laundry up and down the stairs and helping sort it and hang it up. I can deal with that I guess...

I won't have to worry about my DH ever doing laundry since he just learned last year how to work the toaster! :rotfl2: No problem though...he does so many other things for me that I don't need any help with the laundry.

I guess I am super lucky that my DH can not only do laundry but he can fold it as well. We did have a talk a few months ago about how he could do my clothes too. If there's something that needs special attention it is not put in the laundry basket and I handle that.

My fiance does washer/dryer appliance repair - thats his bread & butter.

In our house, it's the opposite. *I* am not allowed to touch anything - and that is A-OKAY by me.

And I even play dumb, to perpetuate me not having to touch anything...

"What temp do I put this on?" "These jeans are delicate, right?" :thumbsup2

DH does 60% of our laundry and even hands the loads I wash. No DH and laundry problems here.

DH walked into the laundry room the other day when I was putting a load of wash in...I turn to him and exclaim "HONEY! Welcome to the laundry room! "

I swear - when we moved in, he put the machines in there and put up cabinets, but that's it.

I wouldn't be too hard on your hubby...hey - he tried. right?? I say "A-for-effort". Yes it's an inconviences to get new shoes, replace clothing shrunk...but we all make mistakes in life...and that's how we learn.
