DH Deluxe Hotel Snob - need help!

Okay so here's my problem:

My DH is an admitted WDW Deluxe hotel snob. He feels anything less than a deluxe resort is not "magical". He wants fireworks views, boats or monarails and balconies.

Here's our problem, we just recently purchased a summer house and really don't have the funds for his "magical" vacation. But want to take DS to WDW this Dec (I selfishly want to see the decorations).

DH was unable to make the trip in Jan so I went with my mom and enjoyed a wonderfully magical guilty vacation at the Poly without him.

I would stay anywhere in WDW. I told DH lets just stay at a value or moderate and enjoy just being there. No dice, he wants deluxe accommodations.

Where should we stay???

First week of Dec choices are Wilderness lodge, Boardwalk Inn or Caribbean Beach. Our son will be almost 2 years old at the time and this trip is really for him.

I'm leaning towards Wilderness lodge since it's a deluxe and it's somewhat reasonable. (not really but what am I going to do?)

Any suggestions??

Anyone really love a moderate resort and can help me sell DH?

He HATED PO-Riverside. Felt bus was not worth the wait. He feels in WDW time is $$$$ and would rather be in walking distance to a park.

See if you qualify for any of the discounted rates at Swan Dolphin.

I agree with Swan/Dolphin. It is a great location within walking distance to Epcot and Disney Studios. They do offer alot of discounts. Good luck!

Instead of a week long trip what about 4 or 5 days at a deluxe? Or try going on off peak times.

I can't help you out if you really want someone to convince you that it's okay for an admitted "deluxe snob" to stay at a mod. I tried that last trip and it didn't work.
We love the Epcot resorts, especially the YC. For our last trip (4th visit since January) I thought it might be best to save a bit and stay at a moderate. Since so many here on the boards love CSR and describe it as a 'mini-deluxe', I thought "okay we'll try it". BIG mistake ~~ we had many issues starting with check-in and then the room itself. Tried to overlook some things, but it did make our trip far less magical than usual.

I will never make that "mistake" again. If absolutely necessary we will cut back on length of stay or alter our dates, but on future trips we will definitely be staying at a deluxe!

How did you get WL for a choice the first week of December? I've called every day including today and they have nothing at all.

dvc rental may be the way to go... can you avoid weekends? (more points needed)

We really like CS, but based on your last line...If DH has it in his mind, then maybe nothing else will do. I've said before that like the idea of staying in new places, myself, but if that isn't his style, maybe you should console yourself that you are lucky he wants to go at all. Having said that, I second a vote for Swan at the discounted price if you can. You could also save money by taking a shorter trip, doing non-park days, cutting back on meals...

My DH is a deluxe resort snob, too. I have a birthday trip planned for him - we go in 2 weeks - he thinks we're staying at POR but I'm surprising him BIG TIME! I booked us at WL and it's already PAID for, which will be an even better surprise for him.

So you know my choice would be WL if you can get it OR rent points from a DVC member at either WLVillas, BWVillas or Beach Club Villas.

My DH is an admitted-Disney-Deluxe-resort-snob too. lol In fact, we are going back to WDW at the end of October and at first we were booked at Pop Century. Needless to say, we have since changed our reservations to the Polynesian, lagoon view concierge. lol

We split our stay this past summer between the WL and the Polynesian and we really did love the WL Our very first on-site resort was CBR and we liked that too; until DH got a glimpse of the Grand Floridian while we were there for a character dinner. A couple of hours later and we were checked out of CBR and checked into the GF. LOL

P.S. I just want to add that I know we would've had a great time at Pop Century! But the more we thought about it, the more we realized we wanted to be near the MK, and need the services that concierge provides, specifically for this trip.

As a deluxe resort lover I rented DVC points at the BWV and we loved it there. I have already rented points for our 2006 visit. Hope to stay at WLV or BCV. It's a great savings.

I agree with others... If you have to... spend shorter time and go with Deluxe.
I agree that time is $$ and also with your son being 2, I figure you want to spend a lot of time at MK.. so go with one of the MK Deluxe resorts. ??What days are you looking at? Because online also has rooms available first week - also at the CR starting 12/4

My suggestion would be for either the Swan/Dolphin (which are beautiful, deluxe resorts) or a DVC rental. Those are also considered deluxe accomodations (and in many ways better than deluxe).

WL is beautiful at Christmas. And you can't beat that boat ride over to MK. If DH hated POR, he'll hate CBR. We found CBR to be far too spread out, and probably won't stay there again. We were there for 12 nights, and I truly wished that we had split our stay.

I agree about trying to get a DVC rental. We loved VWL, but BWV or BCV would be awesome too. And you can't beat the price for the level of room you get, even in a studio. The extra amenities are wonderful!

We've stayed at all levels, and we love them all.

I've decided to cut the trip shorter and not do a full week (8 days like DH prefers) I think 4 nights is enough.

My travel agent says the WL is available the first week of Dec. I'm debating if we should stay there or the Boardwalk since that's available as well.

DH loves the Epcot area and the night life of the Boardwalk, but he's never been there with a child - like I was in Jan. It's such a different experience. We won't be doing the same things as we're used to doing.

Now, the WL I can take the boat from there to the monorail at CR right? I'm wondering how that will be with our son? I know that you have to fold your stroller to get on those boats, but the canal boats by Epcot you can roll the child on in the stroller.

Ooh, decisions decisions. Please I need your help. Which resort would be better for our 2 year old?? I'm thinking Boardwalk since we have easy access to 2 resorts, but WL is closer to MK where I know we'll be most. I'm so torn! I feel like I have two babies to please - DH and DS!

DH hates the buses. Before DS he'd make me take a taxi before getting on a bus. So I really need to avoid the bus. He'll do it occassionally like for a trip to the marketplace but not on a daily basis. I haven't been to AK in ages because it's located so far away!!!!

So I guess I'm leaning towards Boardwalk Inn, what do you think? Good for a snob and a 2 year old???

I would go with WL - So convenient when spending a lot of time at MK. So close if you have to take son back for afternoon nap to WL.

Go with what's good for the little baby.. Big Baby will have to deal with it.

You sound just like us! This next trip will be our first with a child. It's always been just the two of us and we hate the buses! So we're staying at the BWV so that we have easy access to two of the four parks. Also, you can walk to Epcot and take the monorail over to MK -- it may be a longer trip but you wouldn't have to deal with driving, cabs or buses. It will be much easier transportation-wise this way.

Our daughter is almost 2 and we stayed at VWL in August. We didn's have to fold up the stroller on the boat, we just rolled her on. It was very convenient to be that close to MK since we spent most of the time there. We are staying at BWI this december though. I also like the easy access to Epcot. My hubby is also a deluxe snob. We stayed once off-site and we will never do it again. He feels that it is worth the extra cash to be that close to everything. Good luck!
