My Dh is scheduled to leave Iraq on 4/3 to spend two weeks at home with us! We didn't think he would get leave til summer (he only got into Iraq about 6 weeks ago), but they are starting the leave rotation for everyone in early April. Since we just had a baby, I guess he gets to go first....even though we didn't really want this so soon! Who can complain though! Just now we won't see him until next February....we were hoping his leave would be in summer time so it would break up the time between seeing him a little more.

I can hardly believe it still! I'm hoping we have a nice, relaxing visit and lots of quality time just the 5 of us. He was home for two weeks at Christmas and it was just way too hectic and crazy with visitors/family.

Alice! I am so happy for you! so glad I checked the DIS today and saw your name at the top!
I bet he can't wait to see the baby! I am sure it will be a wonderful! Hopefully the time between this visit and the next won't feel like forever!

Enjoy your time together! It is actually 15 days at home, plus the day they arrive and the day they leave (so you get to see them 17 days! :sunny: ). Hope it does not fly by too quickly, as my dh's did. But then you can countdown to homecoming. That is what we are doing now!

I took lots of pics when DH was here and burned him a CD set to music. I sent it to him after he left and he loves it. Be sure to get a lot of pics of all of you. ENJOY!

Yeah, he actually has from April 3-April 23 "off." But he has to be back in Iraq by the 23rd....he said they are telling him it will take 2+ days on each end for travel time. He goes from Iraq-Kuwait-Germany-Dallas-Portland. What a journey! Sounds like an episode of the Amazing Race. That and he won't know what time he gets into Portland until he gets to Dallas. Ca-razy!

Hope the days together are doing you both well, Alice. A big thank you to you all.

About taking pictures while he's home... be sure you get someone to take pics of you TOGETHER. We didn't even think about it, and only have a few, none of which are really good. Most are either him w/DD or me w/DD, but not all of us. The best one we got of all of us also had my niece in it.

We should have scheduled professional portraits, I suppose... just no time.

Enjoy being together!!

Good idea with the picture thing; we had semi professional ones done when he was home at Christmas (our neighbor is an amateur photographer and she did them). She and her DH are coming over tonight for dinner; maybe I will ask her to snap just a few pics with our camera.

In 48 hours he will be gone again....sigh....

I will say that it is difficult to be alone and not have your spouse here; and then to have them with you 24/7 is a jolt too! ( we have had a few *moments* I think just out of frustration of too much time spent together after being used to different situations). I am hoping when he's home for good, and back at his civilian job, everything will settle back down to a normal routine.

I often really don't think of what he's (we're) doing as a sacrifice, but sometimes it does hit me all we are giving up, voluntarily...I think our country is worth it though...and the fact that Iraqis were given the freedom to vote too is pretty cool.

Good news- DH was promoted to Staff Sgt/ E-6 rank. More money for us, which is great. :teeth:
