My neighbor feeds the feral cats. One of them had kittens on our property. We have 2 dogs so he was trying to trap the mother to take her and the babies to the shelter. He had on heavy leather gloves but it bit right thru them.

So it was off to the ER since the clinic was closed. Gave him heavty duty antibiotics. I am just so mad that we have to deal with this at all. Cats are allowed to roam all over and there is nothing that can be done about it. We are animal lovers and don't want the cats harmed, I just want them off my property and not causing me problems.

Are they not making him get the rabies series? When I was bit by a cat out in Iraq, I had to go through the whole rabies series. It SUCKED.

I hope he is okay.

No, they are not since there are no reported cases of rabies in the area.

I hear ya!

I love animals - have 2 dogs and 1 cat - and am compassionate for stray animals. But I really wish the cats would stay off our property! We have 2 outdoor sheds, and we cleaned them out over the past couple days. They were messy, and gave the cats shelter. But they peed all over everything! It was a disgusting, cat pee mess.

Some of the cats belong to our neighbors. We mentioned the cats to one of the neighbors and he laughed and said that even if he wanted to, he couldn't keep his cat inside because it would keep meowing to get outside.

DH thinks it wouldn't be so funny to him if his cat ended up getting trapped and taken to the shelter (he is seriously considering getting a trap and taking any and all cats to the shelter).

My cat stays in the house. If he goes outside, on a very rare occasion, he does not EVER leave the fenced backyard or go out without supervision (he goes outside sometimes during the summer on nice days).

Like I said, we are compassionate, but I am sick of the amount of cats in the neighborhood!

Hope your husband feels better soon.

Does he have a recent tetanus? My SIL's cat bit her and broke through the skin...she didn't have recent tetanus and ended up in hospital for three days with cellulitus.

Hope he is okay.

So sorry :( I hope he is not in any pain and that things will heal smoothly

If she had just had kitties it was a really bad idea to try and move them. As pp said best bet is to call a professional to come in and take them in if you must have them removed.
I'm sure the doctor already told you but make sure dh keeps a close eye on the wound, cat bites are nasty things.

I got bit a year and a half ago helping out at the Humane Society. It was one of the most painful things. My hand swelled up and was infected. I had three days worth of Rocephin shots and had to get a tetanus shot. I was off work for one week. I also had deep scratches on both arms as the little sucker wrapped himself around my arm as he was hanging onto me with his teeth!

Tetanus shots don't prevent cellulitis (which is caused by almost any bacteria)...but I still hope he has a recent tetanus shot to prevent tetanus.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. Yes, he has had tentus shot within the past year. So far, no infection. Think he will be fine. I will look into the trap and return situation. The cat has moved her kittens from our yard.
