My DH asked me some questions about DVC tonight! I'm the one who asked a few days ago about how to convince him. I just answered his questions very low-key with no pressure. He seemed very interested to learn that you can sell it if you decide you don't want it anymore. He also had a question that I did not know the answer to. If, someday when our kids are older (grown-ups), can they use our membership to get a reservation? Would we book the room ourselves even if we weren't going? Is that allowed or do the members have to go?

Thanks!

The members don't have to go. You will be able to make reservations for your children (or anyone else you desire) and they can go without you. That's how so many people rent their points. They make reservatons for other people who pay them for the use of the points.

To add a little to HBC's great comment: when you make a reservation, you can put whomever's name(s) you want on it - and omit yours - and each person on the reservation has the right to check in, get a key, etc.

You can also seperate you points into smaller contracts, with each child in mind.... ex... if you have three kids and want 300 points... you could get 100+100+100 all the same UY all the same resort..... and, as rocketriter said bequest a contract to each.

I am so happy your DH asked you questions! I know you must be bursting!

If you bequest your ownership to your children, do they have to go through ROFR or pay any transfer fees, etc.?

If an estate sells property, the need to prepare a deed. That deed needs to be recorded/filed so fees are involved. I imagine that a bequest is similar but am not sure. No idea about ROFR.

Related question, can you give your DVC contract to someone as a gift w/o going through ROFR?
