Cast: Dh 30 years old and now sulking
Cast: Me 28 and cant wait to be 30 so I can go back to NYC
We got up at 7:30am for our first full day. The helicopter trip was not booked until 10:00, but we needed to be there for 9:30am. We both had a quick shower and were down for breakfast at 08:15. I had a bagel with Philadelphia on and a croissant. Bruce had toast and a muffin. At 08:30, I said we had better go, because we chose to use the bus instead of the taxi to save some money. We walked down to the bus stop and we went to board the bus and the driver said, “do you have a metro card or four dollar bills” no so we had to find somewhere that sold a metro card. We managed to get a metro card from the underground and we saw another bus coming. As we boarded the bus, we realized this was a different company and this was not the right bus. So again, we got off the bus and waited for our bus. 09:00 we got on the correct bus and by 09:10 we were at the end of 34th street. We had to walk down to the helicopter pad. We arrived at 09:20. We used our traveler’s cheques to pay for the ride, but Bruce signed $20 too much in traveler’s cheques so they had to give us $20 back. He was so embarrassed. We had to put all our belongings away and were only aloud to take up a camcorder and camera. We went through a security checks and we took off at 09:45. I had the window seat and I was quite pleased. We were told where to sit due to balancing peoples weights. It was nice not to be judged at how big I am. Kid’s aye? How they can ruin your body LOL
We took off and headed for Statue of Liberty straight away I was so excited to see her. It was amazing flying around her. We flew towards the Hudson River and followed it up. We are not allowed to fly over Manhattan now since 9/11 so we saw the financial district and flew over Manhattan Bridge. We saw Empire State Building, Yankee stadium, and Central Park. It was really good flying in between Manhattan and New Jersey. It went so quick, but Bruce and I loved every minute of it. If anyone goes, I recommend a helicopter tour with Liberty Helicopters. They were really friendly.
Weather was hazzy
We left Liberty Helicopters and walked back up 34th street to catch a bus to Liberty Island/Ellis Island port. I cannot recall what time we arrived unfortunately. Much of today is a blur today due to not taking any notes. We sat on the bench and watched Statue of Liberty and taking in the atmosphere. We managed to get some tickets and we were on the 12:00 ferry. Again, we went through security checks, which we do not mind to be honest. It makes you feel safer and what they went through I do not blame them at all. We boarded the ferry and we sat on the top deck. My god was it cold and windy going across the Hudson River. We took a few photos and we were absolutely freezing. The temperature was starting to drop from this morning. We got off the ferry at Liberty Island and took some pictures of Statue of Liberty and I again had this WOW moment. All I kept saying was WOW. They sold out of tickets for people to go up Statue of Liberty I do not think you can actually go up anymore than the concrete stairs since 9/11 from what someone was telling me. It was okay I was so impressed with Lady Liberty and she looked so pretty. I decided I had to text people to tell them where I was standing. It was starting to get really windy and cold by now, so we decided to head over to Ellis Island to see Immigration Museum. It started to rain, it was now 13:30, and we needed to head over to see Ground Zero and Brooklyn Bridge so we decided to miss Ellis Island do this next time due to the weather and time. We started to walk up through the financial district in the rain, but I did not really care I was NYC and having a great time. We walked over a pedestrian bridge that took you to Ground Zero and it was so shocking to see a whole in the ground. They are now building a new tower over Ground Zero there were construction workers all over place. You could see some old parts of the towers where they had stood. As soon as we walked to the front of Ground Zero, there were pictures and names of all of the heroes of 9/11 it was emotional. Bruce and I had the worst goose bumps we have experienced. We had them from head to toe. We walked slightly away and the goose bumps went, but I said I wanted to take some photos of the pictures they were displaying so we headed back and instantly the goose bumps and the emotion came back. It was quite a strange feeling to have.
We headed off to South Sea port to view Brooklyn Bridge from there and to look at South Sea port itself. It looked closer and the time was getting on. It was already 4:00 and we wanted to head into Times Square for dinner. Bruce thought it was funny I was walking very fast practically running down, as I felt a little awkward, because I could not see any tourists and I felt people were looking at me. Bruce said to me it was safe and to stop being silly. I wanted to get a taxi back to the hotel, but the road we were on made it quite awkward, so I had to walk again across 14th street. This time I did not walk so fast, but probably a little faster than I normally do. LOL. We were fine it was me being paranoid. We managed to get a bus, but the traffic was awful so it took us quite a while to get back to the hotel.
By the time, we got back to the hotel I was shattered so we had a little rest and tried to decide where we were going to eat. Typical me I can never decide after what felt like a life time I said how about Hard Rock Café. It looked quite nice when we walked past. It started to hail, but it was like hard snow type sleet, which started to lay. I said could we get a taxi. Bruce said “on a Friday night in the snow your hoping” After several attempts to get a taxi we started to walk up 6th Avenue, but the rain was soaking my feet in my pathetic flat shoes that I took. Therefore, we had to head back to the hotel and change my shoes to trainers. I felt a little silly wearing nice clothes and trainers. We headed out, walked in the rain to Times Square, and went into Hard Rock Café. We had to wait 20 mins for our table, but it was fine I sat down and Bruce had a look around. Finally, we were sat down and we looked at the menu and found it to be more expensive than Planet Hollywood. Bruce had chicken fajitas and I had quarter chicken and rib combo. The service was good, but the food was poor. Bruces onions were not cooked properly and the chicken was not char grilled and mine was tasteless. We decided to share a pudding, which were a brownie, cream, ice cream and sauce. Again, this was okay. Bruce had a cocktail, coke and I had a coke and the bill came too roughly $86.
After our meal, we took a slow walk back in the rain to the hotel. We went to bed ready for the next day, as we were so tired we could not carry on the evening. Another great day! Cannot wait until tomorrow!!!
