DF is having a colonoscopy on Wed.-Updated on last page

Oh, I did manage to get off of work...we just weren't sure at first whether I could since it's a new job.

FYI....(at least at my Gastro's office) they won't start the procedure unless you have a ride home.

Same thing with my place...and they send the person that is driving you home in with you to help you get dressed...which I was NOT happy about being it was my brother!! I just turned my back and held his clothes out piece by piece for him just kept asking "you alright" over and over LOL...

The recovery room sounds are the best part of the colonoscopy experience.

Everyone has to get rid of the air that was pumped into them for the test.

I should make a CD and sell it.

I know! I asked my doc (while he was doing the flex sig) and he said most people can handle a flex sig, but not the colonscopy without sedation. The further it goes, the less tolerance you have!

What if there is a polyp or tumor beyond where the flex sig reaches?

My doctor won't do a flex sig on someone with a family history of colon cancer! In fact, he doesn't do the flex sig for cancer at all. Mine was to rule out several gastrointestinal diseases.

I have a friend that does that colonoscopy without sedation, and I'm not sure how... she was sick of spending the rest of the day groggy after each

I told him today what the night before is going to be like and he didn't believe me but I guess he'll find out that night.

Didn't read the directions? Has he had aspirin or Ibuprofen?
Has he had red food dye in anything? If so, by now the process
should not be performed -dangerous and inconclusive. I know
'a guy on whom they stopped to procedurem, charged him and
told him to come back another time because he had not adequately performed his pre-tasks. Have fun!

Who has a medical procedure and doesn't even read the instructions beforehand? I know I'd have that stuff memorized before the day of the procedure!!!!!!!!!

He read them today while I was at work just like I assumed he would. He knew he couldn't have Aspirin or Ibuprofen and I can't think of anything he would have had red food dye in, so he's fine. Men just sometimes don't read directions.

He has to be on a liquid diet for two days-right? The red food dye refers to Jello(which is what I ate gobs of) or popsicles or fruit drinks-all the things you have to avoid the color red. Also-for the WEEK before you have to stop certain meds-including your vitamins, etc.

He knew about stopping meds. As far as the red dye, he hasn't had anything with it. The fasting is just the day before.

As a nurse who works with older population and has had to start and "clean up" many of these preps WE usually get directions to Hold Aspirin/Coumadin/IB for 1-2 wks prior, Start clear liquid diet day before and have them drink phes citrate night before, than give dulcolax tabs 6 hrs before, give dulcolax supp. 2 hrs prior and occ. we get to do enemas but I think that depends on dtr.

It's not fun for pt. or us but very important thing to have done.
