Deyki's Make-A-Wish - 12/15 - Maybe not

Hope all was well with Awana - it was tempting to come out - logistically not so much!!

God's Blessings! :goodvibes

Nothing fun and Disney related in this update, just medical stuff. Deyki had a bad headache when he woke up. I gave him Tylenol 3 and observed him. Awhile late he told me he was having trouble seeing. The way he describes it, it was like things went dark and there was only a little light. This happened three times each time only lasting a few seconds. This has never happened before, so I don't know what to make of it.

His head feels better now and his vision is okay again. I am bringing him to the eye doctor tomorrow morning. I left a message with his nurse and am waiting to hear what else we need to do. They may want to scan him to rule out a TIA (small stroke).

Pray for wisdom and for clear eyesight.

Praying!!

That is scary.

Keep us posted!

Wow...that's scary! Here I am panicking that my little monkey had a FEVER. Yikes! Praying that everything is okay

Deyki has been fine all day. No more episodes. I am wondering if it was a migraine? He has an eye doctor appointment at 8 in the morning. We are squeezing him in, so it is at the office far from our home - clear on the other side of the city. It will be a very early morning with all 5 kids in tow, but we need answers.

Pray for me tomorrow. After the long drive and eye doctor appointment, I have therapy and a wake to go to. One of my best friend's mother-in-law passed yesterday.

On a happy note, Sweetie Pie has a family that wants to adopt him. Now we just need to find his dad, so he can sign off. We will miss the little guy, but he needs his forever family.

When things slow down a bit, I want to get some pictures posted of our Disney Family Fun Nights and the concert that Make-A-Wish was at. I'm working on it!

thanks for posting - I'm happy to pray! Know that prayers are being sent your way!!

Quick update after eye doctor appointment -

Although Deyki does have the early stages of sickle retinopathy, what happened yesterday was not optical in origin. It appears to have been neurological. It could have been TIAs or related to Chiari. It could have been seizures. We just don't know. I have calls out to the sickle cell clinic and the neurosurgeon. I am trying not to worry too much since I don't even know which one to be concerned most about.

I will update as I learn more.

We spent last night in the ER with Deyki. He had been sitting at the dinner table when he got dizzy and fell off the chair. He continued to feel dizzy for about 45 minutes. Because of the visual disturbances earlier in the week, I took him to the ER. They examined him and observed him for awhile before sending us home with instructions to follow up with hematology.

Today I spoke with hematology. It appears that these incidents were most likely TIAs - transient ischemic attacks. The key word there is transient. Basically he had sickling in the brain, but it cleared on it's own restoring bloodflow. If it had not cleared on it's own as quickly as it did, it would have been a stroke. TIAs do increase his risk of having a stroke, and they do need to be treated seriously. They aren't as bad as I thought though. Since his last MRI/MRA showed only minor changes in his veins on one side of the head and there was no evidence of a silent stroke, we do not need to start monthly blood transfusions yet.

For now we remain watchful and hopeful.

Thanks for thinking about us!

continued prayers! May you continue to get strength from the positive news - you always find the positive!

I'll be praying for you and Deyki and family! You gave me quite a scare when I first started reading. It still sounds really serious to me but glad it isn't as bad as you thought.

Poor Deyki!!!

This kiddo better start feeling better! Doesn't he know that he has to get in Disney shape ;)

Just wondering about you guys too....

I hope you guys are doing better!!!

So sorry to hear of the little guys bouts with TIA...I have suffered with them for about 30 years, and I know how hard it is for an adult to deal...I can only imagine having a little one dealing with it!

We just got back from Disney this past weekend. I think you are making me want to go all over again!

Prayers for continued health.

Nini
