Not trip related, but our own middle of the night adventure. . .
We had our own mini-fireworks display in my daughter's room last night!

There was a loud thunderstorm outside that was scaring her. I was sleeping in her room trying to calm her fears. An extra loud rumble of thunder sent her scrambing from bed. She turned on her light only to see what she called "tiny red fireworks" shoot from the ceiling light along with several bright flashes of light. It was accompanied by big popping sounds.
Then came the smoldering, smoky smell. The ceiling is too high for me to climb and feel for heat. The smell is getting stronger. I thought of my other three children still sleeping and pictured an electrical fire consuming the bedrooms. At that point I decided to wake them and call the fire department.
I learned that my children can get up and out of the house very quickly if I tell them there may be a fire. Well, everyone but Deyki who decided he wanted to wear his
crocs with Buzz Lightyear on it. We will have to talk about fire safety again this morning when he wakes.
I heard the sirens almost right away. (I am sure my neighbors loved that at 4AM.

) Six firemen hurried into her room and climbed up a small ladder to touch the ceiling and examine the light fixture. Turns out the lightbulb was the culprit. Instead of just burning out gracefully, it exploded! they assured me it was safe to return.
As the sun rose, I got my four champs back to bed. They are sleeping still. I on the other hand, kept dreaming of our house collapsing around us! I am very thankful to have a house this morning, and even more thankful to have all four of my children!
