Developer Points for a cruise?

I am thinking of possibly adding on to BLT, especially with the Developer Points incentive that came out. Can these Developer Points be used for a cruise?

I don't think you can but call your guide to make sure. The developer points that were given with AKV recently could only be used at SSR, Disney Land and thorugh interval international so if the same rules apply you can't.

I do know that the Developer Points obtained while on-board a Disney cruise (at least for new members - not sure for add-ons), can be used for a future cruise through Oct 2010 if booked by Oct 2009. That might just be an on-board exclusive incentive.

If you had the time and inclination, I would rent my developer points and pay cash for the cruise. You get much more cruise for your dollar (assuming approximately $10 per point) compared to using points for your cruise. Of course this does not take into account the value of your time devoted to renting! Good luck. :goodvibes

This is correct. We just purchased BLT on the Magic last week and our guide advised us that this offer is only available to those buying on the cruise. You also get a reduced points offer valid on many of the 2009 cruises if you book within 3 days of disembarkation.

We bought into DVC for the first time this past February after a trip in January with our home being AKV. We too had Developer Points. I don't think they had the stipulation that you could only use them at SSR like they have recently. HOWEVER.....We used our 2007 banked points, our developer points, our 2008 points, and very little of our 2009 points to book a Christmas Cruise for my family of four and a three night stay at AKV pre-cruise. We knew we would never get that option again and will most likely never use points for a cruise again. And, of course, Christmas is the highest point value to go. Remember you can do some points and some cash for the cruise. I didn't think renting points was a good idea since the cash cost for a Christmas cruise is so high anyways I pretty much broke even.

I originally was going to wait to book the cruise until the 7 month window like it suggested but I was told I didn't have to if using for a cruise. :dance3: With these new stipulations on the developer points, I would certainly ask MS.

Good luck!

I agree, this is what we did in 2007 with our developer points. Worked out great and I got a 4 night cruise for two, plus recouped my DVC downpayment.

Check with your guide. We did use ours for our cruise but that was before the SSR stipulation. If you can use it to book outside at II then I think you could use it for the cruise also.

Not the best use of points but I did not want the hassle of renting out.

So I may be dense, but can you or can you not use for a cruise? thanks

I think it will come down to when you bought, and what your contract / paperwork says :). We bought just a couple of weeks ago, and we cant use ours for anything but SSR, DL, and II.

Does anyone know if restricted developer points can be transferred? They are restricted SSR points, but my friend is planning on staying there anyways.

It depends when you bought. We bought our contract at DL in November 07. We used our developer points for our upcoming cruise. This is our first and last Disney cruise so it really does not matter which way we use our points:happytv: I believe new purchases however have restrictions. Ms will know for sure.

They cannot be transferred. Had a few folks try for me before our last visit - would not work.

So we just got our DP's after closing before the incentive (long story) so we never got any info. on them When do they expire? What is II (world passport, concierge both?) Any and all info. would be appreciated!!:worship:
