Does anyone know of the best (aka cheapest ) way to park at DTW?

We are leaving on a 3pm flight out of DTW on Sept 7 with AirTran

Would be it convenient to stay at a hotel and park for "free" or to use one of the off site lots?

What have you done and what has your experience been??

Thanks a bunch!

I don't think you can park at a hotel near DTW and park free, they charge you even if you stay the night, ask the hotel if you can park for free if you stay the night before. If you have time park at one of the off site lots on Merriman and take their shuttle to the terminal. If you want to park near the terminal (Davey) just park in the big blue deck, I think it's $7.00 per day. Make sure you plan at least an extra hour if you park off site in a lot, it may take a while to get the shuttle and get to the terminal and go through security. Have fun, we'll be flying NWA in July to WDW again, we're counting the days:banana:

Another Big Blue Deck user here. With four kids and a UHaul full of luggage, we want to park as close to the plane as possible! :lmao:

When you pull in, they have two entrances -- I think they are labeled short and long term. The long term spots are a little farther from the terminal (but still part of the BBD), but cheaper (I think it's like $8 a day vs. $10).

For their ease of use and security, I think the Deck is worth the extra dollar or two a day. I once left my lights on and when I returned from my trip I had a dead battery. Parking security was there within minutes offering help.

I agree with cantondisneyfamily that if you try one of the other lots, make sure to plan extra time for the shuttle. There was another thread on here the other day about park and ride hotels near DTW. It didn't sound like there were a lot of options for that based on the thread, but we've never tried it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses!

I've been looking at my options so far

Big Blue Deck (BBD) is going to be 72 dollars

Other off site lots are runing about 68 so for 5 dollars more I think I'll stick with the BBD until something else comes about.

I have lots of time but Planning is half the fun of the entire trip!

We always use Qwik Park on Merriman road, and here's why:

The buses literally follow you to your parking spot! Then, the drivers help you unload your luggage on the bus, and take you right to YOUR terminal. You don't have to make the rounds.

qwikpark.com has coupons. They also take AAA. It's $10 a day, or $59 a week without the coupons.

BBD is okay, but can be a lot of walking if you don't park in the right section. And in 4-5 trips, I can never seem to find the right section. (I think it's either 3-c or 4-c, by the way.)

My favorite is Airlines Parking off-site through the Park n' Fly network. They have a huge lot, quick shuttles, and their rates are reasonable ($48/week, $8/extra day). I'd really rather tip a driver to handle my suitcase and drop me off at the door than walk through the (incredibly confusing) BBD.
